Help to reduce blood sugar naturally

Hi,

I have had Type 2 for 2 years and stress, lifestyle, high oestrogen (Adenomyosis) & undiagnosed thyroid issues, have all contributed. I’ve tried so many diets over the years and am well educated around food but now I have peri-menopause, Hashimotos, NAFLD and borderline high cholesterol to contend with and I’m not even 50!

Im on 1000mg of Metformin but my BS are 97 (down from 120) they were 80 2 months ago and nothing has changed!

What can I do to stabilise them and get off meds once and for all?

Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Thank you x

Diet needs to revolve around stabilising blood sugar, not just about how many carbs you ingest. (Calorie restrictive diets are really bad for your metabolism & will make your thyroid worse)Look into the Glycemic LOAD diets/way of eating. (There are many available) This looks at combining high GI/GL foods with low GI/GL foods withing the same meal, so as to not spike blood sugar, thus not spiking insulin production ... eventually resulting in insulin sensitivity rather than insulin resistance.

Selenium & zinc are good for thyroid function, as are optimal b12, ferritin & vitD ( ask your doc to test, get the results & then do your own research on optimal levels)

Cholesterol can be high if you T3 levels aren't optimal. (This can be an avenue to getting full thyroid panel tests done - not just TSH which is a pituitary test, a brain hormone - if doc says wants you on Statins, say you're not comfortable doing so unless you know your T3 is optimal [not just in range] &, I think it's in WHO guidelines... That statins shouldn't be prescribed without sorting underactive thyroid 1st, as that can resolve issue. And if prescribed to someone with underactive thyroid, more likely to get adverse reaction )

Agnus castus works on the pituitary to normalise estrogen/progesterone levels. NOT an overnight fix. Can take many months. But totally pointless if you're taking any kind of synthetic hormones. (Birth control etc) Or you can get bio-identical progesterone to supplement. (Again, what works for one, may not be right for you - it's very individual)

Hope you find what helps and works for you.

thank you so much for your reply and apologies for the delay in responding. I don’t come on here much.

I’m currently taking 30mg NDT for my Hashimotos and feel much better. Not optimal but definitely an improvement. Apparently my AST liver function is high as I have NAFLD. I generally don’t eat white refined carbs anyway and am Gluten Free and have seen the NHS Nutritionist who have looked at my diet and agree it’s pretty sensible. I think my thyroid is the root of all my issues which came on during pregnancy 11 years ago and I’ve never been the same since and my health has got slowly worse over time.

Due to Adenomyosis I have to take birth control so I don’t have periods. Too horrific and debilitating otherwise. 😞

The NDT is giving me more energy and I’m losing weight which is desperately needed so that’s good!

I’ve just had some more thyroid bloods done to re-evaluate my meds so I will now incorporate supplements and see if they help.

Thanks again. It’s a journey!
