Does anyone else get severe foot and leg ... - Cure Parkinson's
Does anyone else get severe foot and leg muscle cramps up to the waist and, if yes, what do you do to alleviate them? Thanks.
You can start with the basics and try some quinine, it's harmless and you'll find it in tonic water, About 2 8 oz glasses a day for a week. If no change, have your electrolytes and vitamin levels checked, thyroid and lymphatic system and on and on, and on. Good luck!
I use Magnesium Plus, which is a fizzy powder, which is a combination of magnesium, potassium, calcium and several other trace minerals as well as vitamins. Relieves the cramps within 15 minutes.
Hello,
Further to JennyR's answer above, did you know that up to 80% of people in the west have a magnesium deficiency to one degree or another? So, your cramp is not necessarily a symptom of PD, but you could be extremely deficient in this macro mineral. If you can not obtain the nutrient fizzy powder that JennyR recommends you could try Magnesium Citrate tablets, but take them for several months before deciding if they work or not. Do not buy Magnesium Oxide tablets because you can only absorb 4% of the magnesium in this form compared with the Magnesium Citrate which you can absorb 19%.
Norton
I seem to remember that there is a problem taking Quinine with one or other PD drug.
Can't remember which, anyone interested will have to check the patient information leaflet. These are available online. So you don't need to get a prescription first.
Sinemet
I go with the magnesium. Now trying Solgar Magnesium Citrate.
Hi yes I get this. What I was calling cramps was actualy dystonia. I am taking Baclofen (muscle relaxant) and paracetamol for the pain. I am 40 apparently this is a common problem for my age with PD.
yes i was plagued with cramping in the lower leg from the knee down and in my arches and toes. my husband who is a bear when it comes to supplements, handed me some calcium lactate, with magnesium, and said take 4 of these at night. i did , and since then no more cramps to wake me in the morning . only the third morning of taking them , but after that no more cramps. or dystonia. i told my neuro . about them being dystonia , and he said no. not dystonia. well he can believe what he wants to ,. it sure does work. and a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.. or hurt as much.i'm beginning to take what these neuros say with a grain of salt.
since raising the knee part on his rise and profile bead he hasn't had the cramp in his leg or underneath his heel , my husband has been using a rise and recline bed .
Someone else on this site said 2 bananas a day....worked for me
I eat a banana every day and have very stiff and painful legs from knees down; it does seem to lessen after I've been moving around. It hits me when I get up from sitting or laying down. My feet have tremendous cramping and actually almost feel like claws...I know this sounds weird but no other way to explain it. Also my big toe hurts like hell, anyone else?
