Does anyone have an opinion about the Neupro Patch? I have dystonia in my right foot and leg and this causes trouble walking and driving.
My doctor prescribed the Neupro patch for... - Cure Parkinson's
My doctor prescribed the Neupro patch for me. The side effects explained in the brochure sound scary.
Eileen, I was on the patch for about a year when the FDA pulled it. I had started with 4mg patches and worked up to 12mg a day. I had no side effects and it controlled my symptoms very well. I am travelling around the country right now but next time I am in Indiana I may get started on them again.
Hi Eileen,
Just like Word, I used Neupro until the FDA pulled it from the shelves and I LOVED it. Literally ZERO side effects. Good luck!
Well I guess it is back on the shelves in the states.
Are there any long term side effects?
I was on it in the beginning....before it was pulled and I'm back on it now (4 mg) I have occasional redness at the patch site, but otherwise, no other side effects. I could not take Azilect or sinemet because of nausea--no nausea with the patch. give it a try. I think it's the FDAs job to make big Pharma write every possible side effect known to humankind on every med because of litigation.
I am on the patch to treat my PD. As for the patch I will give you a few tips. When you remove the patch, clean skin with alcohol and finish with hand cream. Go to Neupro.com and receive discount card, you will save lots of money.

you are absolutely correct I just did not have the ability to type all information thank you for all the information you do provide to us, best of health. and thanks again for the info on the grant from PAN
For me the biggest problem with the Neupro Patch is the cost. I was looking forward to upping my patch to 8 mg. but the insurance company only covers approx. 40% which left us paying nearly $300 for a month supply, The 4 mg. didn't do enough, but unless I can up the dosage I am not giving it a fair chance. My only problem was redness & itching.
The difficulty is getting them, I order them with my usual drugs at the GPs but they always take about ten days to arrive. I have wondered if it is because they are expensive and suspect they have to be passed at some higer level. I dont think there is a cheaper alternative one with this drug. I do think once the NHS cuts start to kick in the source will dry up.

I use the Neupro patch for RLS and find causes me a LOT of itching. Often I scratch 'till I bleed. I also find that it is far better to itch than twitch. When they pulled it from the US market I cried for days, then whined myself into a trial. Without it I cannot ride in a car, attend church, sit through a movie, relax or sleep AT ALL. With it, itching and all, I can live. It's been an itchy miracle for me I encourage you to give it a try & wish you luck.
p.s. I almost didn't continue w/them till I realized they take a long time to take effect (5-6 hrs.)
My husband started with 2 mg and then progressed to 4 mg. It has been wonderful. There is a slight itch. The cost was a BIG surprise, but worth it. We have had PD for over 20 years and this has been a godsend, Neupro has given back a lot of stability and independence.
I was told this patch is not liek sinimet but more like an agonist, such as mirapex or requip. How is the patch helping if you don't mind me asking. I have had PD for 14 years.
I am using the Neupro patch 8mg, I started with 2mg. I do not have any side effects or itching. It is very expensive but f it helps it is worth it., It works pretty well for me but I think I could use a little stonger dose. Don:t be afaid to try it Eileen it could do wonders for you.
Eileen, we are glad you asked this question. My husband is considering the same change. All the answers are so positive, we will explore giving it a try.
I am on the patch to treat my PD. The drug that allows me to walk is Amantadine. 3 hours after I started Amantadine, I had balance and could walk much better. As for the patch I will give you a few tips. When you remove the patch, clean skin with alcohol and finish with hand cream. Go to Neupro.com and receive discount card, you will save lots of money.

WELL SAID JAMO
YOUR NOT TRYING TO TELL ME THERE ARE NO SIDE EFFECTS. NO ONE HAS FALLEN ASLEEP .
PLEASE COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THERE WERE PULL IN THE USA
yours EXPORT .
They always do. If your doctor prescribed a glass of water for you to get from the pharmacy the accompanying patient information leaflet would contain warnings about overdosing which can lead to kidney failure and the risk of drowning where large amounts may be stored.
I was at my neuro this past week and he started me on the patch due to increased stiffness, shuffle and dragging my left foot. I have had the BP, sleep, and nausea side effects so far. I also take Azilect. My pharmacist was very cautionary. I also had BP problems when I started Azilect for the first few months, even when following all the precautions. I have to take BP med and keep monitoring...
I still have a lot of stiffness in my neck, but the rest of my body seems to be slightly better.
I made it one day...went to bed and thought I woulda jump out of my skin...ripped that patch off! Any suggestions on how you are so suppore to go from 7 sinemet aday to the patch?
