Hi michaela13. I am not a doctor, nor am I in favor of any medication, other than Azilect, Eldepryl or Parkilyne, all of which are MAO-b inhibitors. These medications stop the natural breakdown of dopamine in the brain, which gives you more of your own dopamine to use. This should be the first type of medication to use to help relieve the symptoms of Pd. Why all doctors don't do this baffles me. However, I feel sure that they will all have their reasons.

Because no Pd medication slows down the progression of Pd, and the medication you are taking makes you feel worse, it is not doing anything to help you, so I would personally stop taking it. There is the possibility that you might need to come off it slowly, but how to do that with a patch, I would not know. Have you investigated doing walking to help you deal with your Pd?

I use an 8 mg Neupro and it works best placed shoulder to shoulder --meaning back n forth daily one to the other. When the patch didn't have good contact it didn't work as well. I use the Patch along with 10 sinement pills daily and add 5 cr's of sinement to this.

My husband is eighty and had been on Sinemet for eight years eventually having the patch added he has never improved got worse the consultant wouldn't believe me and change the patch to Roprinirole .

He is housebound and I hoist him , completely relies on me . Since the Roprinirole he has worsened even further . I have tried to contact the Parkinson's Nusre but she has not got back to me yet . I got so Desperate I had to ring go for a house call he was hallucinating and confused . .

The outcome is we are biting th bullet and have stopped the Roprinirole along with Forusamide and Amitriptyline . What a difference a week makes . he is back to normal . Well I say normal his Mobilty is not good but he is smoother and more relaxed not worrying stressing as compulsively Early days watch out Sinemet I won't rush so far we haven't seen anY repercussion and feel more confident . So watch this space . So far on our case there has been no problem in suddenly stopping the Agonist .

HI I really hope things are still ok for you both.I see you mention forusimide. This is usually given to relieve fluid build up in the lungs and swollen ankles /legs,Its not unusual at his age.Im just a little concerned that the focus is on PD and your husband has other health issues. Please watch for swollen ankles and any breathlessness. The forusimide is a diuretic it prevents fluid buildup[water retention].It maybe essential to reintroduce.Im assuming as it should not be given to rid fluid buid up caused by ropinerole.

Take care ,x

Balderdash thank you for your concern ,

He was given the Forusamide in the first place purely for fluid build up in tummy legs and feet . .They said his BP was high when he first went to the GP struggling gave him Amlodopine since stopped . they didn't agree that he had Parkinson's but his Bl was high . I took three years before they diagnosed him with Parkinson's His BP isn't very high in fact can be low . It's general in Parkinson's to be low . His breathing can be erratic that that also goes with Parkinson's .

Since stopping the Roprinirole his breathing pattern is much more regular and the swelling GONE . He still hasn't had any adverse affects SO FAR!!. His tongue doesn't seem to be as large . The jumps jerks and thrashing has stopped along with the confusion .

Of course he still isn't well but finding things so much easier to deal with it and me to deal with him .

HE is now only taking the beta blocker for his Atrial fibrillation along with Warfarin , then sinemet for Parkinson's . I keep my eye on the BP .

The GP checked his heart and chest wile he was here and they were fine . The build up of saliva so far hasn't caused any chest problems but it does collect in his throat which can be very frightening for both of us on occasions , even that isn't as bad now . .

We never hold our breath or get excited when any improvement it is progressive after all but if we don't keep positive it would be more unbearable . ...

My husband started Neupro and that is when major problems began. Respiratory problems, diarrhea, swelling feet and ankles, hallucinations, disorientation and it did very little for motor symptoms. Never got past 2 or 3 mg. Too scary. Had to go a week with no meds. His brain and sense came back after a few days, swelling went down and we are back on sinemet with provigil. So far,so good. But that was very frightening. After doing much research I am convinced it was the preservative in the patches.Do all PwP feel like guinea pigs?

Sounds so much like my husband only he has been on these meds for eight years so I felt more worried about stopping them after reading the instruction . I so wish I had gone with my gut feeling in the first place . He is house and chair or bed bound , I hoist him on and off commode , carers morning and night .

He is now enjoying the TV and communication it is at least promising . AT the moment !!!!!

How old is your husband mine has always been a young of heart person and very social ably . Lived nothing better than eating friends to talk about the latest sport .
