Has anyone done botox on their salivary glands for excessive mucus? My mom has excessive mucus due to severe dysphagia and she is basically up all day and night suctioning out or spitting out her excess mucus so she does not choke to death. My sister talked to a neurologist who works at the same hospital she does who said that botox injections in the salivary glands should help. My moms old neurologist never suggested this. We recently moved her here and I am taking her to a new neurologist next Tuesday to see if they have heard of the whole botox thing...I would feel better if any of you had tried it or had at least heard of it.
Botox for salivary glands?: Has anyone done... - Cure Parkinson's
Botox for salivary glands?
I am seeing a naturopath tomorrow with my husband who has p.d. and also has trouble with so much saliva. It is a problem which has only recently started but it makes his life a misery. The doc did not seem to have any answers as usual. Should I be told anything of value tomorrow I will let you know. Joan
I'm no expert but a fellow in my PD dance class had it done and he complains it did not work. A sample of one!
Thanks Joan and Pat. We are going to see a new neurologist on tuesday and I will let you know what they say.
My husband has Parkinson's and with it the extreme, excess siliva. His doctor prescribed an eyedrop, Atropine Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution USP, 1%. He places one drop under his tongue and it helps relieve the drooling. Sounds strange, but it works.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR SUGGESTON OF ATROPHINESULPHATE, WHO KNEW!! MY SALIVA IS TAKEING OVER MY VOICE!! I SURE HOPE IT WORKES111
