Yes I reckon it is the meds that are responsible for weight gain. I have the same problem - I eat less than I used to and take regular exercise but still the weight goes on!heyho another thing to cope with....Tony

I'm on Sinemet CR and have no weight gain.

I noticed that you are on Sinemet CR . My husband has always taken Sinemet in different strengths , along with the Sinemet CR at bedtime .

I have never found much improvement since he started but recently I started to give him a CR about 10. am . then a booseter Sinemet CR at 12 am

I have been considering trying him on Sinemet CR x 3 daily . How do you take your meds . I have never understood why they don't prescribe generally . Maybe someone could explain it for me .

I take Sinemet CR (or generic name Carbidopa/Levodopa sustained-release-oral)

I take 50-200 tab....

One in the morning, with my Azilect and Amantadine syrup. Then 1/2 tab at 3 o'clock, then another tab at dinnertime. (6-7pm).

I sometimes skip the half at 3 o'clock (depending how I feel.)

It looks like medication effects every person differently....That's what makes this disease so "challenging" to say the least.

what do you mean "generally"? Every pwp is so different.

I have been on l-dopa/c-dopa for more than 15 years. I never noticed a weight gain I could attribute to the drug but in the past four years or so I have been losing weight at the rate of 2-4 pounds every couple of months. I am sure this has something to do with the increased caloric loss caused by tremors.

I have always attributed my weight gain to Stalevo. Have now started Sinemet CR. Don't tell me I have something else to blame my weight gain on. I also have tremors, but so far have not lost any weight. If only I could.

Diet and exercise are so important and need to be constantly adjusted. As the main caregiver for my husband, he's had PD for over 20 years, I am constantly reevaluating our meal planning and encouraging him to use the treadmill (set up in our living room). He is really good about using those stretchy bands to help with muscle rigidity, they are hanging on chairs in every room of the house. Our married life (47 years!) has been a constant roller coaster--good thing that I like amusement parks!

I've been on Sinemet for 9 years and have lost weight. When I was still working and active I went from 150 down to 132. Once I stopped going to the office I went back to 150. Stress causes me to lose weight. I had DBS this June and weighed 139. Now I'm back to 150. I exercise 3 days a week aerobic. I also do the Big stretching as well. Stress affects my weight loss.

Since being on the PD meds I have gained 45 lbs and hate it.I found with the requip XL I started eating at night. Sometimes I didn't realize how much I ate in the middle of the night. I have gotten that issue somewhat under control. I blame some of the weight gain on that fact that I cant move very well some days and I get so tired from no stamina. Just started sinemat its been a roller coaster. I am trying to eat the right foods and exercise. My neuro told me not only do I have to exercise to have a life, I have to exercise in order to live.

your neuro is right. My opinion--requip is the devil drug!

Although my husband is not taking his Pakinsons meds right now ( he was on CL), he was on them for 3 years and lost 100 lbs. Although he did need to loose some wait, he sure didn't need to loose that much. Now, he could stand to gain 20 or 30 back. He eats well, and I have started giving him a Boost drink with his meals 3x a day.
