Not for my husband wynn7. He suffered from very bad rigidity, a soft voice, leg cramps, no balance, tiredness, and tremors. His meds were not working as long anymore and his doctor did not want to give him more due to the possibility of causing dyskanisia. so the DBS was the only solution.

I did my research on DBS and its the best solution for me. I was having rigidly, dysekensia, involuntary head and hand movements and less than an hour on time. The meds took over 2 hours to kick in. Sometimes the never did. I had surgery in June and am much better. Longer on time, meds kick in about 45 minutes, shorter off time and meds are reduced in quantity!

If you're looking for long term surgical control mechanism, then DBS is the current gold standard. If you're not looking for that then you needs best check with your doctors to find which meds will suit you best. They might find a certain combo that out-performs DBS for you at this time in your disease progression.

The Neupro Patch is our current trial. So far, so good. It helps keep a constant stream of drugs in the system. My husband is into his 22nd year with PD. There are many good days when he can walk without aids, but still some bad days when getting out of bed is extremely difficult. DBS was recommended 3 years ago, but we weighed the positives and the negatives and opted not to proceed.
