Honestly, just try to write a book about pd and keep the science current! Good luck!
Just as we are finally sending chapters of The Peripatetic Pursuit of Parkinson off to the editors, here are the newest developments from just the last several weeks.
- alpha synuclein has gone from the bad guy to possibly a good guy or at least not as responsible as we thought as a cause, it is a different shape and is more complex than we thought.
-ditto LRRK2 - some form of it is actually good. Major findings!
-MVD -a new surgery to decompress a blood vessel in our brain looks very promising; interestingly this was the cure that the Rev. Dr. Schuller meant when he said his friend had "discovered a cure to Parkinsons" in one of his sermons at the Crystal Cathedral several years ago. The researcher denied it at the time and said he was just beginning a project. This one is a surgical procedure; the need for it can be seen in a scan and I don't see how there could possibly be a placebo surgery. What for? Nothihg inserted except a pad of some type to do the decompression. Come on America - please get over the placebo! This one needs a rush put on it as it also can correct other conditions.
- the cause of all ALS is an accumulation of ubiquilin2 and it is suspected to cause other neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson disease.
- PD could be further investigated with urgency please, as a malfunctioning recycling system
-they are beginning to perform DBS inside an MRI with the patient asleep.
That's off the top of my head. i don't think any of them are in the book at this point. But that's a good thing!
