Has anyone else tried running with PD? Or... - Cure Parkinson's
Has anyone else tried running with PD? Ordo you find body breaks down?
The only time hubby ran was when the bees were chasing him. After that he was exhausted and slept the rest of the evening. He has enough trouble walking let alone run anymore.
I tried to take up up running again recently but ended up with pelvis/back problems ad was in bed for three days! Tony
I take off and run into a store or back to the car in the parking lot, just to remember how it feels I stop before I give myself too much time for falling. It sure feels good though!.
Look up John Ball Parkinsons on Google You will find an inspirational story of a runner who uses his running to raise funds for PWP. With his wife Edna they run Team Parkinson in California and have raised large amounts of money for PWP
I think that he is approaching 30 Marathons!!!
Good luck with your running.

Anecdotally people report "running out of juice" i.e. they are noticing that they are working through their medication rather more quickly when they take aerobic exercise - has anyone else noticed this?
David Greaves is a keen cyclist and he wrote a survey recently about exercise and Parkinson's which you might find of interest. surveymonkey.com/s/2CCVYXV
I am interested in this new med Michael J Fox is on that helps him with wearing off. I walk everyday . My problem is pain in my lower gut. Seeing a new GI doc soon. Wish me luck!
The current literature says running/ walking/ exercise is the best drug. I'm a lifelong runner, dx 7 years ago; I put that as my priority every day and run/ jog as long as I can. I jogged almost 4 miles the day before DBS surgery June 15. I'm not back to that yet, but I walk as much as possible. I'm anxious for the DBS programming to get the bugs out so I can exercise more. One of my inspirations is Gregg Riehl who ran a marathon after DBS surgery.
My good friend and running buddy has Parkinsons. She is early onset and less than a year out from diagnosis. At this point she may be a bit slower, but that is more because she has been very busy with work and added weight training to her exercise routine has meant less running. Plus this time of year is bad for her running because she is very sensitive to the heat. My guess is her running will be back up to speed in the Fall when she can come out with me more often for our 5 mile loop. I met several runners at the MJFF MVP dinner, including those who had done the NYC marathon.
PatV for gut issues are you taking a probiotic and taking an enzyme before eating? Another important thing is to have daily movements. Magnesium and warm water with lemon helps with moving stuff through your system.
Exercise exhausts me.
I have been a runner almost all my adult life. During episodes when I couldn't I rode a bike or swam. Now with foot dystonia I find it too difficult and ride a stat bike daily. Thirty minutes usually makes me feel better... but not always.
