Is Going Out Into The Sun Bad While Using Meds?
I heard that us parkies are more at risk of melanoma...... Not sure how true this is, but I used to love the sun but now make sure I put on a minimum SPF 30.
Skin rash can be a side effect of carbidopa-levodopa. Many pwp are heat intolerant with increased hypo-tension and dehydration. Drink lots of water.
I believe some of the drugs used in PD should not be used or used with caution if there is a history of Melanoma. But have not heard of any PD drug actually causing it.
My husband has had and has skin cancer which is treatable, he was in the army and was subject to stand out in the sun without protection (not really used in those days) he has since recieved compensation from arm forthis as consultant recommended he applied However he has had PD for past 18yrs I have nursed 2 men with PD and they had skin cancer I suppose there could be a link. Take care
That is army sorry
I know if you are taking carb/levodopa you are at increased risk for Melanoma. Use a good sunscreen.
Not to add to anyones worries, but being forewarned....
Studies show that pwp are more prone to get melanoma from the PD and/or the meds combined with the PD, and the sun.
Studies show that people who've had melanoma are more prone to get PD.
Studies haven't given a real solid explanation has to how this happens.
Melanoma is the deadliest of skin cancers, albeit in somewhat a large fish in a small pond fashion. (meaning that if your going to have a cancer that could kill
you skin cancer is less likely to do so than the worst and truly problematic killer cancers.
Some recent studies have shown that certain chemical sunscreens can be cancerous.
Personally, even though i am a Melanoma patient, I hate using sunscreens. I know that always wearing a hat and long sleeves helps - especially with certain high UPF fabrics.
Sorry to sound so heavy on this subject...
Best wishes all.

i also ave cum up in a rash when out in d sun must b d meds
The sun drains the strength out faster than normally, so drink lots of water. Also remember your meds, they will also be working harder because your body is too. Kinda like rolling a ball down hill. Put a rock (rocker) in front of it and enjoy the shade and cold ice water. Don't forget the sunscrean, ck with your family dr for your risk factor for skin cancer and etc.
