Amantadine is working! Mom is feeling be... - Cure Parkinson's
Amantadine is working! Mom is feeling better, stronger, more independent. She's still scared of going out, even for a ride. Advice?
That is so very encouraging.! I have been taking amantadine for about month or 5weeks.am not up to full dosage yet. Meds just don't like me so I have to take it slow. It's nice to hear when something is working well for someone.
I understand med not working. Mom usually has the same problem. I'm so glad she's okay this time.
This is working very well. I'm hoping the best for you as well.
Hi,
Let Mom warm up to the idea of going out. I know for me it sometimes takes up to 3 days for me to get up the courage to go out. It is hard to mingle with crowds, I am always afraid they will knock me over because I move too slow. Although I have never been knock down to the ground I have been pushed into other people, walls, shelves and doors. I have been hit with carts, purses and bodies because I been in the way in the aisles at the store. It's like I am a non person, just because I walk slowly and with a cane and I shake a bit does not mean I do not deserve respect! I hate going out. My biggest fear is the airport, too many people and way too big!
Don't push Mom, just offer and then let it go.
Good Luck, so glad your Mom is doing better!

Thank you. You're right, patience. She's mentioned coming over to my house. I think that would be a good first step. I have only one floor in a small house. She doesn't have to worry about other people either.
I agree with your comments about other people. Seems so many are in such a hurry. I know we all have things on our minds, but weren't we taught to treat others the way we would like to be treated?
Well I think on it like this..... when you feel you can't face the outside world you have to kinda tempt yourself back into it. If I feel that way then I always go and do something which is a real treat, or something I love.... that favorite little cake shop, or the store with amazing dresses, or the gardens where I can take a zillion photographs..... all irresistible! Of course she'll see through it so don't hide it tell her its to get her out ! Do let us know how it goes! x
I certainly will. I think the first idea to come to my house will be safe. Then, when ready, maybe her favorite meal out.
I will let you know how it goes! Thanks.
I'm so glad that it's working for your mom Maybe just tell your mom that you just need to get out of the house and tell her you'd like her company. Tell her she doesn't have to get out of the car. Then maybe go get some ice cream or coffee at a drive up window. Blessings.
She's lucky to have you. I have to plan to get out. My kids practice 'tough love', at least that's what I call it. I am contemplating visiting my mom (92 on Monday) by myself and airport requires lots of cash for tips for wheel chair handlers. They are usually very nice. Airline personnel? not so nice. Big stores? Forget it. I am starting to ask people to go with me. Otherwise it's delivery. Street vendors get a lot of my business. But left to my own devices, I would be stuck in house forever.
"92"! Wow, that's great! Some family on Dad's side lived to be over 100! Can you imagine the history people have witnessed?!
I agree about the "Big Stores". Too many people, noise, and still not enough room to move. If she doesn't move fast enough people get mad. Or, if the cashout line is too long, she maybe moving into her medicine time. It's too confusing, plus tiring.
I hope you can go to see your mom. I realize the trip will be difficult in many ways. Do you have a friend who could go with you? Maybe that person could keep an eye-out for you. I wish you a wonderful trip.
