I badly need to lose weight especially around my stomach area. I was wondering whether anyone has used an abdominal toning belt? Desperate so will try anything. Watching what I eat and exercise has not helped at all. Need a solution before my holiday in September as I can't afford, and don't need a new wardrobe.
Desperate to lose weight: I badly need to... - Cure Parkinson's
Desperate to lose weight
you could always starve?
Seriously though, gadgets don't really do it (been there, done it). The only way to be successful is to change your lifestyle, eat less, eat healthy, stop snacking and do more exercise (not easy with PD, believe me i know). I put on weight after starting meds as snacking helped with the nausea but now i snack on crisp breads or fruit, does the same job but less fattening.
Everyone wants a magic wand to lose weight but there isn't one.Sad but true.A quick fix is not the answer.
Good luck (Tesco do a good weight loss programme and the Nintendo Wii is great for exercise )and hope you have a wonderful holiday.
I walk a lot, ecercise regularly, use the Nintendo Wii Fit, do. a Rosemary Conley DVD garde, look after 2 grandchildren on a regular basis and still can't lose weight.
I eat healthily, very rarely snack. As meds give me nausea have a plain biscuit before taking them as recommended by nurse. Have until September to lose some weight otherwise I am not sure I want to go. I have never been overweight until Parkinsons so it is hard to look at recent photographs. There just does not seem to be answer. But will keep looking.
it must be very frustrating for you. All that effort!! you're a better woman than me, 20 min on the Wii and I'm wiped out.
Don't miss out on your holiday though , that would be dreadful.
We went to Lanzarote last year, had a villa with private pool, so I didn't have to worry about anybody looking at my wobbly bits. It was bliss, felt so much better afterwards.
I feel your pain. After DBS I put on 30lbs. Just had to redo my DBS and I am trying like crazy to not put on more weight (common side effect of DBS). I walk but over do it as I try to punch out my weight gain. I started tracking everything I ate. Nothing works. I am now resigned to doing things in small steps I.e. slowly building physical stamina first. Watching what I eat. I make sure I stay on top of both fluid retention and constipation as this artificially increases my weight and increAses my concern. If I could just stop eating sweats every night I might make progress. My point is I am planning to set small realistic goals. Proir to Dx I ran marathons, could eat or drink what I liked. Now a short walk every day and working towards limiting sweats to every other day, then 1 / week etc seems to be sustainable and make sense. In the meantime I just have to break down and buy bigger clothes. Best of luck.
this worked for me... tools: a paperback book with calories listed for different food, a blank daily food diary, measuring spoons and cups,a good pen, clipboard, magnifying glass. Record everything consumed and assign calories.Check with a nutritionist on every aspect of food consumption and get guidance, e.g., limit of total calories allowed each day in order to lose "X" # per week/month/year...ask ???, take notes, be completely honest....no will power, no self-discipline, but make decisions every step of the way - those to achieve your objectives and goals.
I will try this and keep a food diary. I am usually careful what I eat but do not weigh or measure foods. Perhaps this is my downfall.
in my opinion you had no "downfall" - it's the decisions you make that determine whether or not you'll achieve what you say you want.. Behavioral conditioning is often the result of our thinking, words we use and the things we choose or decide.Listen to what the nutritionist has to say. That session is the best hour you'll ever buy in my estimation.
There's a free online program On Line. I signed up for it to see if I'm getting enough fiber. I'm not always! Some day too much sugar.
