My husband is only taking a 3mg dose at night for bedtime. We will eventually stop it all together if we can but he is having a very hard time. Please tell me your side affects when you got off it so we can know if what he is going through is normal.
When getting off Requip do any of you kno... - Cure Parkinson's
When getting off Requip do any of you know what the side affects are?
Requip was the first medication that I tried. I hated REQUIP! While taking it, I was VERY nauseous and had the WORST heatburn of my life! At five weeks, I still wasn't up to the full dosage that my doctor had prescribed. It also did little to eleviate my symptoms. (slight tremor, gait issues and small handwriting).
Afterwards, I tried Carb/Levo 25/100 3 x a day. This medication and dosage eleviates my symptoms (I pass for a non PWP) and I haven't had any of the BAD side effects of Requip.
Everyone is different. I hope your husband finds the correct medication and the right dose.
Try asking your pharmasist mine is very helpful and informative.
I was taking 5mg of Requip. When I changed to Sinemet I crashed hard. I cried for a whole day and my husband had to take me to the Dr. I was very depressed for weeks. I think if the dosage is lowered slowly and the sinemet is increased slowly, that may work. I hated the Requip, it didn't help me and created OCD problems and I would fall asleep while driving. Two weeks after quiting I left my husband and never looked back, cried about it or anything! It was like I had become a different person.
I came off of Requip, did not add any meds.
It was VERY difficult to come off of! My Dr. had me come off of it because I couldn't function while on it.
The only good thing about Requip was it helps restless leg syndrome.
I had nothing but relief when I got off it. I had a few days where it was difficult to move. I had a more difficult transition from Stalevo back to sinemet (?) Bladder paralysis, etc. Now I'm NEVER CHANGING MEDS AGAIN!!!!!
I take 22mg Requip XL and dont have any side effects. Am I just lucky?
I think it's about getting the balance right. I've been taking Requip for about six months.
After slowly increasing to 8 mg, I began to suffer hallucinations sleep paralysis and very pretty sparkly vision. So started to reduce down again. Got back down to 4mg and the world's worst dizziness hit. For two weeks the world swam. Went back up to 6 mg and the dizziness went.
My main problem is that it doesn't control the tremor or the pain and so my neurologist wants to change to neupro patches. so here's to the next six months of sickness and dizziness yay !!!
Requip is one of those meds that often requires steps down and done gradually. My doc didn't think i was on it long enuf to require that so I went throuh 5 days of absolute craziness...bad restless legs (never had them before), wierd feelings like Tadpoles swimming up and down my spine, nausea, movements similar to dyskenisia, etc.
Ask your doc, your pharmacist, check online and ask others for the best pace to withdraw at.
