Hi. You I’m thinking of trying this out but am finding it hard to locate a therapist in the Birmingham area. Would any of the community know of anybody?

🙏 Thanks, Jeeves

my husband has regular sessions remotely with an LVST and has been doing so for a few years. Started with the intense four weeks, now every two to three weeks. I can forward you her details if you wish but don’t want to put it on an open forum

Thanks for your help. I know nothing about this LSVT? I would dream of finding some real help or guidance!

Just a thought Jeeves, although we re in the London area, our Neurologist referred my husband to a Consultant speech and language therapist attached to the hospital he attends.

He had to wait a while for the therapy to start, but the therapist was great. No amount of googling by me brought his name up. Maybe your Neuro might know someone at the hospital in the department of Neurology you attend.

Thanks Zella. I think I’ve found somebody in Stafford believe it or not. We discussed LSVT and we’ve developed/devised a slightly less intense approach and she’ll come to my house once a week. Wish me luck. Has it made much difference to your husbands situation?

It definitely did but it does need daily practice to keep up the volume. Neither of us have loud voices so we try and elevate them. The exercises he gave my husband are definitely on going. The more you use your voice the better it becomes!

Glad you’ve found somebody, all the best to you! 👍

I was referred by my consultant neuro. to attend a 6 week LSVT course at my local hospital here in the west of Scotland. I think you'll find it very helpful, especially if like me you have swallowing issues, and sometimes drooling🤤 🫤. I don't have the soft, fading voice that PDers often develop, but the exercises have helped with my occasional problem of words "sticking" when my jaw gets rigid. They tailor the exercises to your personal needs. If you are in a class it's a bit like a singing lesson! We had such a laugh which in itself was great therapy! I'm sure you will benefit from it, perhaps even more so if it's a one to one session.

its 5 years since I did LSVT Loud but although I have neglected the lessons learned and not practised as I should, I now know what to do when my speech reverts to pre-therapy softness.

In Yorkshire my contacts were of course pre-Covid so I am not sure if they are current but its all I have:

Adult Communication Therapy (ACT for Yorkshire Ltd)

actforyorkshireltd.co.uk

If anyone wants telephone numbers for that organisation’s therapists I can provide them but it is probably inappropriate to publish them here without their consent.

Thank you very much. It’s typical Britain though in a way: practitioners hard to find and often having to be eked out of the woodwork. But they DO exist 😂
