I currently take CD/LD 2 tablets/3 times a day. Once when I get up then midday and evening. Particularly with the a.m. dose I seem to get nauseous almost every time I take it. I've trying eating first and waiting an hour, or taking first thing and eating an hour later; nothing seems to help and this has been going on for 3-4 years. Has any one else had this problem and resolved it? I'm at my wit's end and my neurologist hasn't been much help.

help for nausea
When I started taking CD/LD I had the same problem. For me, it sorted itself out in a few weeks, but in the meantime I Googled it and I got a lot of hits for medicines that improved nausea among pregnant women. Undeterred by the "pregnant" part that did not apply to me, I started taking ginger tea and ginger hard candies. I was surprised by how effective both were on my nausea. So I would highly recommend ginger products. Commonly available at pharmacies and online.

Three to four years of nausea and your neurologist hasn't been much help? Sounds like a firing offense to me!
Seriously though, there must be something he/she could do to help. Perhaps too much L-dopa's being converted to dopamine peripherally. Sometimes extra carbidopa (Lodosyn) is prescribed along with C/L to address this and resolve nausea. Or maybe a timed release med like Rytary would be better for you than Sinemet. Gotta be something they can try. 😠
In the meantime, ginger's a great suggestion. If you're not crazy about the taste, you can get it in capsules. Or buy empty capsules on Amazon and make your own with organic ginger. 😊
Split the pills and wait for twenty minutes.
Between the two halves.
if the problem is due to carbidopa maybe you can try madopar instead of sinemet
I used to get so Sick I couldn't take the CL medicine. I got tested and treated for H-pylori. My sickness went away CL was absorbed better and many of my symptoms went off for upto 4hours after taking CL
Hi. I have a similar problem. My nausea comes every time I take LDCD. Even cutting the pills in half and taking only half dosage failed
Then my neurologist added a 25mg CD only to be taken with the CDLD every time. No more nausea
FYI this added pill can be pricy my pharmacy initially asked me for $2700 monthly. I use Good Rx now where I pay about $50-60 a month for 90 pills I usually get 270 which is slightly cheaper
I chew one of these (Nauzene) after I take my pills. They make a liquid variety for kids.
I also was prescribed just plain carbidopa to be taken with my morning dose. Like you the morning dose is worse for me for nausea. Just check your insurance first because it could be quite expensive.
I was advised to take a large glass of water with the tablets in order to avoid nausea. Do you drink enough water when you take them?
Ginger is great for any kind of nausea. CD/LD-ER is easier on your stomach because it is enteric coated so it doesn’t dissolve until it gets to your small intestine. Rytary is even better but it’s pretty expensive.
My husband was helped by reducing the amount of protein in his breakfast. Now he has 35g rolled oats cooked with 190g water to make porridge. He has about 1/4 cup milk on that. Then a slice of wholemeal toast.
I take with 4-6 ounces of a thick juice like V8.
thanks everyone for all the great suggestions, Im going to try them all!
l take my first AM meds with a Belvita and that has helped me. Otherwise I would be nauseous and have heartburn.
I am on the same amount of pills that you are taking CD/LD two tablets three times a day. I was having similar problems with nausea. My neurologist added another prescription of 25 mg of carbidopa three times a day taken along with the others and this has helped very much. She explained that the carbidopa helps to alleviate the side effects of the levodopa.
Maybe this would help.
(One problem with the prescription is the carbidopa by itself cost quite a bit more than the combined medication and required a letter from my doctor for it to be covered by my insurance. )
