How many of you with PD and intestinal problems have had surgery to remove your intestinal appendix?
Could there be a relationship between the role of the appendix as a refuge for good intestinal flora and intestinal problems or even the onset of PD caused by an intestinal bacterium?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I had appendicitis surgery when I was 13 and since then I have always had intestinal problems with swelling and diarrhea. Then I start PD and I see that taking the probiotic PS128 I feel better. Could there be a relationship between the lack of appendix and Parkinson's?

hi my name is Barbs Davies dx 2005. 20 years ago I was in the Philippines for 6mths and 3mths into my stay I had a ruptured appendicitis. I have known for some years that PD and appendix are thought to be related.
the information I have read on this is complicated and the research seems to have different outcomes - I had read the research by Brian Killinger and Viviane LaBrie a few years back although at the same time I have seen information indicating that there is some thought that if a person has not had an appendectomy sometimes bacteria can persist in the appendix and there was some thought that this could be a possible precursor to Parkinson symptoms.
Hmm…….have not heard this before. I had my appendix taken out at age 25, diagnosed with PD at age 60, 8 years ago. Interesting to learn more about this. It makes sense that this could happen.
