Hi there , My husband has PD and we are alwasy wondering what supportive things are out there to keep him strong etc. We want to get a vibration plate for overall health and streth building. But Im wondering if it would also help with orthostatic hypotension that he has developed in the last 3 years. Thanks to all who gave us info on the OH, very helpful.
Does anyone use a vibration platform? and... - Cure Parkinson's
Does anyone use a vibration platform? and if so can recommend a good brand?
We tried a vibrating platform for my husband. We both felt the vibrations seemed to strong and unpleasant, like we felt kind of scrambled after using it, so we returned it. For him gentler vibrational tools worked better. He has a vibrating mat he lays down on and a vibrating pillow he can rest his hand on. Both of those work well for relaxation and tremor reduction. We also have some vibrating massage balls and tools that work well if we apply them to his inner wrist, feet or acupressure points along the liver meridian. But he needs my help to hold those. The pillow and mat are good because he can do those on his own.
Some days the mat, pillow and tools work great to stop the tremors completely, at least temporarily, and other days not so much. But most days they at least work a little, and overall they have definitely been worth the money.
Lifepro. A little more expensive than some, but they give you a lifetime warranty. I like the 15 minute settings which vary the speed every minute. I use it for the hip pain that I was gettng that was so painful I could not walk. Also it helps with the RLS that I sometimes get.
I also use the Lifepro (mini waver)! The company has very good customer service. The first one I was sent made a funny noise so I told them and they immediately shipped me a new one and didn’t require that I send back the old one!
it is a vigorous vibration. At first, I didn’t know if I would be able to stand it, but your body does acclimate! It’s no problem for me now to do 10 minutes at a time, although I still do it on a “low” speed. so just be prepared to not enjoy the vibration sensation at first, knowing that your body will adapt after a few sessions!
I have a power plate whole body vibration. It is good for strength and flexibility, lymph, nervous system and research shows it's good for balance in people with PD. Galileo is a great too . CVAC has many testimonial to help with ALS. It stimulates lymphatics and our PD brain needs lymph stimulation too.
I have a Lifepro also and have been very happy with it.
Late to the discussion here, but I suggest looking up Vibration Therapeutics. The engineer makes a compelling case that vertical vibration is usually preferable to oscillating vibration. I purchased the VT007 plate from him. It is extremely sturdy, and customer reviews of his support are excellent.
