Nicotinamide supplement

Hello all. Thanks to all who’ve shared their wisdom over the years. I hope the following can help others in this forum.

We recently started our PWP on Nicotinamide (500mg, A squared fm Amazon) and switched from B12 to a B complex (Pure Encapsulations fm Amazon). There has been an improvement in motor symptoms, for example: now able to get up from chair without assistance, improved walking. But the biggest effect is greatly improved cognition. Now their comprehension and memory has returned, for which we are very grateful.

There have been several recent scientific studies on vitamin B3 for Parkinson’s motor symptoms, but do not focus on cognition. B3’s benefits seem to be due to being a precursor to NAD+. Some authors say it could be neuroprotective. I would appreciate if others here could look into this further. Also, has anyone else tried B3?

Our PWP (diagnosed 2015) is non-tremor and symptoms are mostly stiffness, muscle weakness and mobility related. They are currently taking Rytary. For us, B3 has a much stronger effect than B1 HCl.

Thanks for reading!

Do you have a particular brand you use?

Also how much do you take?

It’s 500mg nicotinamide, “aSquared” brand from Amazon. This brand also contains Resveratrol - not sure if this is needed. One capsule per day at breakfast in oatmeal.

I use Rugby Niacin 500 mg 1000 Tabs amazon.com/gp/product/B003H...

I take a gram in the morning and another gram at night. This is probably more than a reasonable person would take. I need to try and figure out why I went from 500 mg twice a day to 1 gram twice a day.

The first NADPARK study they used 500 mg of NR twice a day: cell.com/cell-metabolism/fu...

This trial used doses of either 100 or 250 mg NA per day and had good results: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

thanks for sharing your experience with us. I think I have similar symptoms and for so long so far seemed to hard to work out a sweet spot from B1.

I also am a believer in B3 (Nicotinic Acid is my choice in B3. The flush is nothing to fear and the flush helps me quickly go to sleep.)

I also take Niacin (B3) - I like the flush version because it helps me with severe Raynaud's that I have. I take 50 mg twice a day, one at bedtime and one mid afternoon. I take Seeking Health's version here amazon.com/gp/product/B00IS...

I’m confused are the responders to Haosters question using b3 niacin or b3 nicotinimide riboside?

Niacin is the common name for nicotinic acid. Nicotinamide (also known as niacinamide) is slightly different structurally (-OH group replaced by -NH2 group), but these are all classified as Vitamin B3. Very confusing whoever named these. An article (Huber and Wong, 2020) says niacin is converted to nicotinamide in the body. Hope this helps.
