Mucuna Pruriens

I am seeking some further knowledge on using Mucuna Pruriens as part of my daily protocol. Currently I am using 3 grams 98% organic powder extract dissolved into 2 cups of morning coffee. I have also tried using it in yogurt and Lion's Mane (actually quite tasty).

I am practicing self care mostly, with support from my chiro and a naturopathic doctor. I live in a rural area and am not near a hospital. I have never been officially "diagnosed" by a neurologist or been prescribed meds by an MD which I am trying to avoid. I would say I am in an early stage.

If you would be willing to share your experience with Mucuna: amounts, frequency of use, how you consume it and any other helpful hints I would greatly appreciate it.

Just like the synthetic med (Sinemet), do not take MP with yogurt as it's high in protein. If you had a doctor, he could prescribe just CARBIDOPA to add it to your MP. That is the recommendation from my husband's MDS at Vanderbilt. Hubby takes Barlowe's 40%, one capsule in the morning and one mid-day in with the addition of CARBIDOPA. Works fine!

The extracts which contain a high percentage of levodopa tend to cause nausea. One way to avoid this is to use the whole bean powder which contains about 5% levodopa. Requires a lot more to get a dose but avoids and nausea issue without adding carbidopa.

My husband has taken 100% organic powder for 12 or more years and does not suffer from nausea with it. I have a 2.5ml, half teaspoon measure spoon. I prepare several at a time putting one of these measures into a sample bottle that I buy on Amazon. I add some diluted juice to take away the taste and store them in the fridge. He takes one of these with his meds. He has had PD 30 years so you may need to experiment with your dosage. It really works.

What meds is your husband taking with it? My husband is on madapar and trying to reduce it. Thanks

I think 3 g mucuna in one go is too much. I take 4 times 400 mg per day with 4 times 62.5 mg Madopar to add the benserazide. I am fine, except for the night since I have difficulty moving in bed (my last mucuna being at 18h30!

Don't put your mucuna in a yogurt. Put it into water! Pwp should avoid dairy products! Can I ask you how long you have had those symptoms?

First symptom was tremor in right hand and pointer finger about 3 years ago. I have some balance issues and stiffness. My main protocol is daily walking, small weight training, intermittent fasting, organic food and now Mucuna and a few select supplements.

The concentration of levodopa varies from one mucuna preparation to another. So it is not possible to state accurately whether a particular amount of mucuna is too much or too little without specifying the brand of the preparation.
