PEMF and Parkinson's

A local alternative health clinic is offering PEMF treatments for folks with Parkinson's. Has anyone tried this treatment, and what kind of results were attained?

PEMF has been discussed a lot on this forum as as seen here :

Electrical engineer here. In every single study I've seen, PEMF treatment has NOT been sufficiently well characterized to be reproducible. There's so much variation possible in field strength and location, and frequency and shape of the waveform applied, that no two treatments are comparable.

I built a DIY PEMF belt for my wife to help with lower back pain. Most of her PD symptoms have been attenuated by the gloves, but constipation continued to plague her. Daily use of the PEMF belt cleared her constipation problems. (Not part of the goal). Her sister has fibromyalgia and has also had good luck with PEMF for pain relief.

Please share the PEMF protocol her sister used! I have a son with fibromyalgia, and a PEMF unit, but I never thought about using it for him.

I started with 5volt (very low power) at 10hz and 25% duty cycle. After some research, I built a 12 volt unit that she runs at 40hz and 25% duty cycle. She also has access to a full body mat from a local acupuncturist that she uses intermittently.

The DIY build required a little bit of effort (building the coils was the only challenge). The electronics are just purchased items and rest is simple wiring and taping coils to a yoga mat. Substantially simpler than the DIY glove build.

I have used it a few times and it definitely calmed my system. But my understanding is that it needs to be done consistently over at least a few months. Wish it were not so expensive.

I use an Almag 3 PEMF device that is a headband arrangement. It fixed my atrial fibrillation and poor circulation in my bad side. I swear by it but the price has doubled in recent times so now quite expensive.

I agree that it’s very difficult to know where to place the PEMF and what frequencies to use. I’ve been trying to follow this study : ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Where they used 50 hz and a helmet that had 7 coils placed around the head. We have the omnipemf Neorhythm which only has three coils. So who know if it will do anything.

In the 27 week study, at 8 weeks the first minor improvements were measurable and that’s about where we are.

No obvious improvement yet for hubby…maybe I’ll try getting a second device (more coils) going as they are on sale now.

——-for those interested, here’s the section on the PeMF setup used in the study————

Thus, the total treatment intervention period was 26 weeks. The treatment was home-based, and each daily session lasted 30 min. T-PEMF was applied through seven coils placed in a helmet-like shape, with one coil in the central occipital region, one in each frontal-parietal region, and two bilaterally in the temporal region (anterior and posterior) (Re5 NTS Parkinson Treatment System, Re5, Frederiksberg, Denmark). The seven coils were connected to an external pulse generator that generated bipolar, squared pulses (±50 V, 3 ms, 50 Hz) to initiate rapid current changes in the coils, giving rise to rapidly changing, time-dependent electromagnetic fields. An electromagnetic field penetrates through electrically insulated tissue (e.g. the skull) and induces a driving force on charged particles and thereby electrical currents in the brain. The peak E-field intensity has been estimated to approximately 2.5 mV/cm near the coil [10], and the spatial distribution is highly dependent on the steep gradient of the applied bipolar pulsed electromagnetic field.
