inulin
"Inulin-like fructan consumption can also be beneficial because it stimulates intestinal movements by affecting microflora [130] in PD patients with constipation. Very recently, it has been demonstrated that treatment with microbial-produced SCFAs could rescue impaired microglial function impaired in GF animals [131]."
I added Inulin, also a resistant starch, in to my husbands diet a few years ago to help with constipation he gets from PD but didn’t know about this latest research.
I’ve also been adding it to my breakfast to see if it might help with all the other alterations I’ve made in my diet to lower cholesterol. His cholesterol reading was really good on the last test so I’m taking a leaf out of his book!
Thats really interesting and good to hear as I recently bought Cytoplan Cybiotic active powder (pre and probiotic) for my husband who has Parkinsons. He's had it ages ago and it helped his constipation so he's going to staet it again.
Currently taking Inulin as a powder, and was getting ready to stop since I don't see benefits for the constipation. But maybe I will get it in capsule form instead. I notice it clumps a bunch at the bottom of the glass, so I may not be getting the full teaspoon I think I am.
