Hi. Anyone had any experience with singing as therapy for PD? I've read it can strengthen both the speaking voice and the respiratory system. Any particular program work for you? In addition to classes, is there anything on line you could recommend?
Something to sing about?: Hi. Anyone had... - Cure Parkinson's
Something to sing about?
For strengthening voice, look up LSVT LOUD on YouTube and/or internet. I know several PwP's that have gone thru the program and have really improved.
My SALT has got me doing the LOUD program too. Shes also recommended I try singing, but the class is too far away. Damn DVLA taking my licence back.
I go to singing classes regularly, then sing the loudest songs ( probably badly ), e.g. "With or without you ", by U2. It helps me with the volume, and clarity, of my voice. I released my album of songs "Long Hard Road", studio band name "Affinity Formation". 30% of all sales revenue is donated to Parkinson's UK. It is available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple music etc.
The free magazine Neurology Now had an article in this issue:
October/November 2016
Vol. 12 - Issue 5: p 8–9
about a choir of Parkinson's patients in Massachusetts. Google Neurology Now and use search feature. No need to login.
I did not have a good experience with the LSVT LOUD program. In fact, I believe it hurt my voice rather than helped it. As far as singing goes, though, I sing out loud all the time when I'm driving alone in the car and I think it's just as effective as any of the exercises from the LOUD program.
Thanks for that smile, Hal. It brought to mind, this one: youtube.com/watch?v=LyviyF-...
Loved this one. So clever. Thanks for the day brightener!
I do a thing called the healing project.. I think singing helps us all. Http:\\thehealingproject.net
Hey Arlon. Just checked out your site and a song on it. thehealingproject.net/music Thought I'd heard the hooks before and realized where - it was one of the finalist videos at the WPC last fall, yes?
Those lyrics to Life Is A Rock would provide some cognitive calisthenics....
I don't know if singing helps my symptoms as such but it certainly is fun and uplifting for me.
I advise everyone to sing , it distract negative thought when your mind gets scrambled . Exercises mouth ting throat and breathing , lifts the mood as well
Any music in particular that y'all have found therapeutic to sing? Fast-paced ones? Tongue twisting lyrics? Octave range?
