Vit C powder as suggested in above link made all the difference to my HWP

I am glad it worked for your husband! What dose does he find effective for constipation?

Hi! He uses buffered vit c powder : 2000 mg per 5 gm. He mixes 2 teaspoons per day in about 500 ml water and drinks that through the day. Started with smaller dosage. Takes small amounts of psyllium husk powder as well. Eats a lot of fibre. Rolled oats, apples , carrots . Had been doing all of it and still experienced difficulty until the addition of the Vit C powder.

Add on to below: forgot he uses 1/2 tsp of movicol powder per day as well.

Thank you for the feedback on your husband's dosing!

That dose of 2000 mg would be the upper end of what I would consider a relatively safe dose. I think 1000 to 2000 mg is likely to be the effective dose, but if it is not enough, I would consider other options. Some people can tend to develop kidney stones above this range. The ascorbate version may be better suited for this purpose.

Yes this is ascorbate ( has some bio flavonoids in there)and he did start on the 1000 mg version. As it didnt do the trick he upped how much of that he used and then it became more cost effective to use the 2000 mg version

Try a cucumber smoothie (no other ingredients) in the morning, it worked for me. Also, you may find probiotics helpful too.

Did you add your effective constipation remedy to park_bear's page on constipation remedies in PD here :

Keeping the list updated with working remedies is important since constipation is so common in PD.

HiI took have had severe constipation for many years but found my CURE!! Started on 3 capsules (400mg) of Mag Citrate before bed plus 1 capsule in the morning . Started 2 weeks ago and now I go every morning YAY!! I feel like a different person WOO HOO !!

I agree with Mag Citrate. Some caution with high dose vitamin C. Especially if you've had kidney stones. Can cause oxalate toxicity. I was unknowingly on very high oxalate diet (lots of almond - milk, yogurt and butter; vitamin c with each dose of meds; chia pudding every night, two kiwis with skin on daily and lots of leafy greens!). My finger joints were really swollen in the morning...and painful... until I accidentally came across info on oxalates.

The kiwis and chia were helping a lot to keep me regular, so when I stopped those, and reduced other sources of oxalates, constipation got much worse.

Mag citrate seems to have gotten me back on path...

try 5 prunes morning and afternoon as well as putting 2 teaspoons of psyllium husk on your cereal in the morning. BTW try kombucha on your cereal (oats plus some berries) instead of milk or water. Good luck!

sorry to hear about constipation. I assume you're getting at least half your weight in water oz. I massage my belly in the morning and take triple dose of magnesium powder throughout the day. Rectal ozone gets things moving same day. I don't take any diuretic like coffee. I'm ok of I don't go every day. I've heard slippery elm is good. People have lots of great ideas.
