Insomnia caused by neupro/rotigotine

Been taking neupro patches up to 8mg for 8 weeks now and from day one had significant issues with sleep. I normally would fall asleep and wake up 4 to 6 hours later. Now it's often just an hour later and im fully awake. Anyone else got this from their meds? Anyone else had an success in beating this? Melatonin seems to help to make me feel sleepy at least. What are your experiences?

Hello there. I did a bit of research on Neupro when it was offered as an adjunctive to Madopar. It appeared that a small dose of 4mg often helps with sleep, as it has with me, but from 6mgs in can interfere with sleep in some people. I was to titrate up to 6mg, but decided to remain at 4mg because of that reason, as I struggled with sleep before going on it, and also because I felt the response I had was sufficient to help with wearing off. I don't know if titrating down to 4mg would be of any benefit to you, but I'd discuss it with your consultant. I also take Valarian before bedtime which is good for sleep.

That's really helpful thanks. I was wondering about lowering the dose especially as my MDS said it would help with sleep not make it far worse. Thank you.

Please do titrate down very slowly! All the best to you

Is your insomnia PD related? If so, have you tried to do the FAST WALKING, because it really does work and costs NOTHING!

I know you are the advocate for Fast Walking John and I'll be honest I wasn't sure it could get my heart rate up enough. I do loads of exercise but it's one of the best I do for consistent heart rate at a good level. The Insomnia is meds related. None before I took the drugs, day 1 I had insomnia.

Not if you need to work the next day or look after your family.

Been there, done that, for 32 years. I got more sleep from trying to read than I did in any other way!
