Anyone had Ayavedic treatment for PD?

I found this place -Tharavad Ayurveda Retreat, Calicut, Kerala, India -anyone been? or to another treatment centre in India - cant stand the winter - Im shivering and shaking ike crazy

Yes, I was there with my wife, in this retreat last year for 28 days. I am from Midwest Chicago area lived here in usa for 25 years. The place is good, doctor couple is good. cost is economical. weather is good. No comments on the effectiveness of the treatment. they use their own herbal ayurvedic medicines not available anywhere else.

My wife has Parkinson's since 2014 and has undergone DBS in 2021 in Bangalore, India. After DBS she is doing better . We did try Ayurvedic medication but it did not help her so much. In India one can always go to a Ayurvedic Doctor , some in their clinic offer various Ayurvedic treatments like Panchkarma etc etc including medication. The advantage is we have the comfort of home plus the treatment. There are several Ayurvedic healthcare centres in India. The one referred by you is a good centre. These centres offer stay in their health centres in the midst of Greenery , calm atmosphere, food , recreation etc etc Overall in a clean and healthy environment.In general , after the various Ayurvedic treatments planned and executed for Parkinson's patient at the centre , one does feel good but I cannot confirm about its sustainability.

The place you refer to is a wellbeing centre not a true Ayurvedic treatment centre. They are probably safe.

The traditonal treatment centres are far more expensive, have strict lifestyle regimes and usually have 8 - 12 week treatment cycles as a minimum. The medicines are often strong flavoured herbs in alcohol or oil extracts and use heavy strong smelling herb infused oils for massage etc.

Their medication does have a defined pharmacopia reference. They can supply aftercare medicines all over the world.

Overall effectiveness I have no idea. I would be wiling to try one of the latter when I can make the time.

With regards to what Pearlette says about them not being a proper Ayurveda centre; I would look for somewhere to do a Panchakarma with a proper Ayurvedic doctor. That is meant to be an amazing process and I have several friends who have had health conditions helped by it. This would create the best foundation for Ayurvedic herbs to then be able to work.

Several well being centres in Kerala , Southern Karnataka and other places offer Panchkarma packages. They are not real treatments. Nor are they bespoke.

Yes they make you feel good. Just like a long warm shower or a deep tissue massage does. They are staffed by holders of present day Ayurvedic medical degrees often with limited experience. *

Real Panchkarma is a lifelong way of living.

Actual therapeutic treament is offered by old established centresnof Ayurveda like Kottakal, Coimbatore, Vaidyamaddom at Annakara etc. There are also some unique family run treatment centres like Barkur near Udipi. However many of the latter have not got the knowledge reserves once the last traditionally trained older generation have passed on.

Ayuvedic treatment requires a bespoke offering of therapeutic measures based on an evaluation of your current physiological state as determined by their diagostic techniques . As with traditional Chinese medicine , the jargon is not easily reproduced into modern day scientific jargon.

I would be wary of advising anybody without personal knowledge.

People tend to go to India for authenticity and cheapness, but I'm sure there are good ones in the USA, yes
