Are chewing problems a sign of PD? I bit my cheek while eating a sandwich. I do this fairly often. But this time was much wore in terms of bleeding. I treated using ozone cream and that stopped the pain. But I can feel the swollen bite.

Bit cheek, drew blood
Hi Kay,
Unfortunately yes that is definitely a side effect for some.
My husband bites the inside of his cheek on a semi regular basis and his lips especially if he decides to try and talk with his mouth full. The question is, is it a Dyskinetic moment or is it a PD movement issue. Unfortunately with PD involuntary movements including chewing patterns are affected, so being a Dyskinetic moment is what we put it down to.
So far we have not found a way to stop it happening. God it's so annoying isn't it, I do that now and then myself. Sorry can't say a lot more on this.
I have been experiencing jaw clenching for about 2 years before my diagnosis. Initially to a very slight extent, now sometimes quite intense. These involuntary movements only occur when I am tired after strenuous activities and I'm not focussed on others their presence, like now writing this comment. While biting the cheek and jaw movements are related, but not specifically listed as symptoms of PD, they can perhaps occur as a result of the changes in muscle control caused by the condition. It can also be a kind of stress regulation, just like nail biting.
I was doing the same for a while but seems to have randomly gone away. Now i tend to get stuff stuck in my throat more, mostly pills/supplements. It's a strange journey with this disease!
Yep. I often accidentally bite the inside of my mouth when I'm eating something crunchy - just below my bottom lip - with my front teeth. Then it swells up and I just keep biting it... I have also bitten my tongue. Not fun
