I have terrible peripheral neuropathy. I take a B complex supplement. My blood is regularly tested for b12 and checks out ok. Any ideas for me?

I confess, I had to look that up:

"Peripheral neuropathy happens when the nerves that are located outside of the brain and spinal cord (peripheral nerves) are damaged. This condition often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in the hands and feet. It also can affect other areas and body functions including digestion and urination."

Very sorry to hear about your condition. I definitely am 'not' the one to give you advice.

I am not dx'd. When I visited my neuro/ MDS for my first and only appointment last September, he said:

"The good news is that you don't have Parkinson. The bad news is that you don't have Parksinson."

Yeah. He. Really. Said. That. !!!

So I spend a lot of time online reading, skimming, watch, listening and more skimming of dozens of YouTube health videos every week.

This post was FYI to the community here.

Best of luck and hoping you improve soon!

Most of all, NEVER GIVE UP!

p.s. One of the richest people in the world, Sergey Brinn (co-found of Google and worth 114 BILLION dollars) ... recently donated ONE BILLION DOLLARS to research to fight PD!

(He has the LARK-2 PD gene.)

In peripheral neuropathy and PD, there is a high risk of deficiency or overdose of B6. With the combination of multivitamin, that would rather mean an overdose. If you haven't already, I would recommend getting your B6 tested as soon as possible.

I appreciate this - I've atually stopped taking my Sogar B-100 since you posted this. Wondering if it might be the cause of my peripheral neuropathy? Not sure how to know that other than just stopping taking it... but then of course I'm not getting any B1!

It seems like a very wise decision to stop Sogar B-100. First of all because of the unnecessarily high B6 dosage of 100 mg (5882% DV !) And also because of the applied toxic pyridoxine HCI as B6 and not the active 'safe' P5P form. I would now have a test done and determine what your further B6 dosage may look like depending on the result. I myself have to take extra B6 despite my good diet and that will be a maximum of around 5 mg per day. But this depends on your possible C/L medication and your absorption rate. So first B6 fasting for now! There are good multivitamins and B complexes especially without B6 as an alternative to Solgar B-100 to ensure your B1 and other B vitamins. 🍀

Thanks Esperanto. I've taken B-100 on and off for years after reading studies where that dose protects against dementia and helps with mild cognitive decline. It was shocking to learn it has the wrong form of B6 and that these days it should come with a neuropathy warning here in the UK. I will have to look into testing.

Definitely possible. B12 is very difficult (very low "bioavailability") for body to absorb, and it doesn't survive the stomach so you have to take it under the tongue to get any benefit (called "sublingual" dissolving tablets).

my naturopath doc suggested sublingual b12 when I tested low for cobalt. I’ve been taking fir several months, and neuropathy is much better.

At the same time, I’ve been doing more core exercise for lumbar issues.

So I really don’t know if the improvement is from the b12 or the exercise.

However, the point is that poor b12 absorption can be improved by taking sublingual b12.
