Aikidodrummer: Can I safely start coming... - Cure Parkinson's
Aikidodrummer
Welcome! I see you just joined the forum today. I don't think anybody here will be able to answer your question. It sounds like a question for your doctor.
Why do you think you should come off Levadopa?
I'm starting to do Howard Shifkes recipe to cure my Parkinson's and at some point I won't need it anymore , not to mention the major cumulative negative long term side effects
I reduced my levodopa after I experienced improvement, not before. My story here:

Reducing Levodopa dosage is hazardous. It should be done gradually. As far as I know there is no established standard for doing this.
As levodopa works out differently on each Parkinsonian, it will probably be the same for reducing it. In any case talk to your neurologist. And please keep us up to date on any progress with the Shifke recipe. I have read his book, which describes an interesting approach to curing (?) PD.
I just read that you are doing Howard Shifkes qi gong recipe, I have been doing his recipes for the past 11/2 years and also have been doing Tai chi of Master Ming Tong for a while. It has been helping in the symptom's and doing the fast walking also . I was diagnosed last year with PD but was having symptoms for a year or two .I wish you’ll all the best in doing the qi gong and believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Do the exercises with a positive frame of mind . All the best.🙏🏼
Hi. If the medication is not doing anything to slow the progression of your symptoms then start doing fast walking a month you should be able to start slowly reducing your tablets by half a pill every week until they are finished. Within six weeks you should see an improvement and that will continue until you feel free of any symptom.
You must walk as fast as you can, for one hour every second day. Never walk every day, your muscles need time to recover.
If you find that you can only manage to walk flat out for only ten minutes, or even less, then stop and walk for that same distance for the next two weeks. After two weeks, see how much further you can walk and walk for that same distance for the next two weeks and keep increasing the time every second week until you reach one hour. Then keep on trying to go faster and further. Keep a record of your times and see how you keep on improving.
You should keep on walking for one hour every second day until you find that you can't do that distance , and then you continue to walk as fast as you can, while reducing the time you are able to walk.
I am now 88 and have been walking fast since 1994 but had to stop for other health reasons. Each time I recovered from whatever happened ai walk as fast as I can for as long as I can, every second day. and build it back up as quickly as you can to one hour.
Read my book on Amazon and become POSITIVE ABOUT YOUR PD.
Contact me if you want to.
My HWP has benefitted for years by being committed to exercise. I read your book, and we are convinced that exercise has made a difference.
You must be The John Pepper from 'Reversing PD'? Just to let you know that your book has been an inspiration to me!
Thank you Mr John . I am going to continue the fast walking.
Thank you for your comments...I'm excited about the possibilities from doing the fast walking ( I've done a lot of walking in my life) I'm 63 and it seems when I walk fast my walk has almost no shuffle compared to a slow walk . I look forward to corresponding with you. Talk to you soon again .
You can wean off it but you cant just cut it off hard,
mucuna is an option. I use a 30% Ldopa capsule. It’s mild but mildly effective. I think people have replaced doses.
I agree with the other comments, please check with your doctor before decreasing the medication. I exercise a lot every day and have done so for the past 13 years since my dx and that has kept my symptoms at bay for the most part enabling me to only need 4 sinemets daily. I’ve tried a number of times to decrease from that number of pills and it became very difficult and troublesome. I would feel good for a few days but then wham! It hit me hard and my symptoms came back on with a vengeance and my doctor advised me not to try to do it anymore. So be very careful and please check with your doctor before going down this new path. Hope it works out well for you.
