One of my major issues (as I set out in my blog) is my sleep. I have tried CBT (Cognative Behavioural Therapy) and of course sleeping pills. Any good ideas?

Chartist (Art) has made many posts regarding melatonin, often in high doses. Those posts and other research have led me to take 120 mg of melatonin nightly, which has significantly increased both the quality and quantity of my sleep.
Here's part of Art's Melatonin for Parkinson's Disease (part 2) post:
"Dr. Neel, Dr. Reiter and Dr. Shallenberger (74 years old) all use melatonin at 100 mg /day or higher for extended periods of time. Dr. Neel uses it in his Covid-19 patients very successfully at 1 mg per kilogram! Dr. Russell J. Reiter is a world renowned melatonin researcher who has been involved in over 600 studies and uses it in his animal studies and himself @ 100 mg+/night for 25 years as a preventative and he is in his 80's. Dr. Shallenberger uses it in all of his patients and himself @ 180 mg / night and up to 360 mg/ day in some of his stage 4 cancer patients. Some researchers are considering over 500 mg/day of melatonin for Covid-19."
Levodopa medication helps me to have normal sleep
Thanks for sharing your blog. I think I read all that was in English. I was really impressed with the blog and with you as a person too. I have linked to your blog from my RDB-PD Protocols page: rbd-pd-protocols.blogspot.c...
in addition to melatonin I take 150 - 300 magnesium citrate gummies. An Advil from time to time if body aches for some reason at night. And from time to time a cbd gummi. At the same time exercise during the day helps as well. Tried trazadone and Remeron for a few months but got some side effects from both. Still only average about 6 hours sleep/night but that’s better than 2 hours when I was going through sleep deprivation hell!!
Develop a routine and stick to it. Sync your routine to the sun. Have your last meal hours before bed, stay away from screens for hours before bed (TV, computer, smart phone) and avoid coffee late in the day.
Valerian 150mg but you can take 450mg safely as Hubby does at times.
CBD oil sublingual (but beforehand check your local legalities and don’t travel to the likes of the Middle East or Russia carrying any or you won’t be going home for a while )
Magnesium L Threonate
Melatonin 15mg
Deep breathing meditation. 10 minutes
I’d not slept for years until I worked out this combination.
Magnesium glycinate. I just took some last night for the first time and although I woke up a few times, I went back to sleep immediately. I am going to take it nightly to see how it does over time.
Did you work with a CBT-I therapist, or do it on your own? Since Parkinson’s complicates things, you need someone experienced who can work with this, not just anyone trained in CBT-I. My psychiatrist told me this has been her experience, and recommended very specific people who have been successful with her complex patients. I’m just about to start myself!
Combining good sleep hygiene with some herbs/supplements and exercise during the day May give better results…I know it’s hard to be patient with sleep deprivation, but it is what it is…
i worked with a cbt but not a specialist on parkinsons - will follow up on this - thanks
it would be great to find a CBT therapist with PD experience, but I suspect there aren’t many. You may find one by asking a psychiatrist who sees PD patients. Otherwise, a CBT-I therapist with a lot of experience, especially with complex cases, is a good second option. That’s what I went with.
My PSY-doc said she’s seen good ones and others with very poor results.
I looked at your blog, looks like CBT-I worked for a while, then not so well? You might want to look at why?
There are so many factors… fear of not sleeping is a big one, daytime stress, physical issues, etc.
