And Don't Forget Coconut Water For a Healthy Gut And Digestive System.

80% of your Serotonin Production comes from the Gut.

Serotonin is one of the most important brain chemicals, or neurotransmitters, for regulating the sleep/wake cycle. Diets high in the amino acid tryptophan can maintain healthy serotonin levels, but lifestyle choices like constant travel and an erratic sleep schedule can disrupt serotonin production. When serotonin levels are not normal, sleep disturbances and other issues can result, including depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Thank you so much for this excellant post that contains the link to Dr. Bergman's lecture on improving sleep. I have a question for you concerning the coconut water. By that, do you mean the milk from inside a whole coconut? Or will a can of coconut milk give you the same benefits?

Kind regard

Norton

Hello Norton, The coconut water is a clear liquid from young coconuts, it can be quite expensive,

there's a company called grace and they supply Tescos in the U.K ( ha ha good 'ole Tescos ) its non-carbonated and there are two types one that is smooth in taste and one with coconut bits in it ( not for me )

Coconut milk is from mature coconuts, you can use in tea, coffee, soups, curries you can even make protein shakes with it.

Sodium is a little high but you need sodium to help lower blood pressure levels so i would check the RDA to be absolutely safe.

Nutritionally it is very good for you also, coconut oil is more Nutritionally concentrated and expensive

but the coconut milk is more readily available.

You will still get the medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) from coconut milk but not as much as if you were using the coconut oil.

So coconut water for friendly bacteria in the digestive system and coconut milk for nutrition with a good amount of healthy saturates (MCFA).

Hope This Helps Norton.

Is coconut oil/water the same for purposes of your discussion above?

in reply totlongmire

hello tlongmire,

Yes they are, a healthy digestive system means you will be able to reduce the toxins in the brain and nervous system, coconut oil is great for brain fuel, the brain needs three things : Movement, Oxygen and brain food ( i.e foods that have broken down properly in the digestive system will fuel the brain )

Thats why as well as a healthy diet which includes Fish, supplements which are omega 3, fish oil, coconut oil, olive oil helps with brain function.

Thank you for your excellant, detailed answer to my question re coconut water. I shall be paying Tesco's a visit to buy some. Thank you for initiating this thread and participating elsewhere on this website; it's generous of you to share your knowledge considering you do not have Parkinson's yourself. I shall look out for any further contributions you may make in the future.

Kind regards

Norton

I just read your initiating post to this thread and noticed that you asked the question is Sinemet a chemical stressor? That is an interesting question and I can see entirely where you are coming from. Let me ask you a question though. Why mention only Sinemet, would your question be equally applicable to all the other allopathic medications for Parkinson's and any medical conditions? This needs further discussion, but again it is worthy of it's own thread, otherwise it may detract from this 'improving sleep' thread which is of vital importance to so many of us with Parkinson's. Vjessv, would you please consider going to the 'questions' and ask the question 'is Sinemet a chemical stressor'?

My husband has sleep apnia and ended up having a stoke because of it. He needed a full face mask and would not wear one.

I have read once or twice that sleep apnea can be overcome by various diets, rice diet being one of them. Why not do a search of the rice diet sites for a start?
