Ambroxol

Would anyone share if you have participated in a clinical trial using the drug Ambroxol for PD? There have been several clinical trials which have published encouraging resusts, mostly in the UK. I am not formally in a trial but have been duplicating the dosage for about 12 months. My experience is favorable. Recently, my supplier switched to another trade name "Ambrosan" but they say it is the same just under a different name. Please let me know if you have anything to share.

I have been taking Ambroxol since June 2021. I am taking 40 pills most days. I take a day or two a week off. I am better or the same than I was in most PD related respects except one. RLS which has gotten worse. I attribute that to Azilect. (Posted on this). Can you please elaborate upon how you are doing and what you are doing?

I am concerned about Ambroxols effect on the gut biome and liver.

Hello Little_apple ,

How are you? Are you still taking Ambroxol and if Yes - what dosage?

l participated in the Ambroxal trial in London Ontario. I was in for 12 months and did a 6 month extension where I know I was getting Ambroxol. I personally didn't see much if any difference in my condition and taking 10 times the recommended dosage could cause long term side effects. That being said, I was obviously desperate enough to try it and if you do I wish you good luck.

If your condition did not change over 6 (or 18?) months, maybe that is a success?

Maybe, but at what cost physically and financially

Ambroxol is the only non-prescription medication / ‘supplement’ I’ve fairly consistently taken- for nearly two years now. Sometimes it’s difficult to get hold of and I have a pause but things feel better when I’m back taking them again. It could easily be a placebo effect (and I have upped my dosage of prescription medication based on consultant’s advice - longer post needed) but he knows of Ambroxol and didn’t raise any concerns with me. Until there’s clear evidence to the contrary (and a viable supply) I’m going to continue.
