I have been taking ambroxol 1200 mg/d with some success. There are clinical trials taking place in the UK, but I am not officially involved because I live in the US. My neurologists has no knowledge concerning this drug. Will anyone share with me any news about success or failures with this drug?

Thank You

Hello limcheeese22 . What dosage do you take?

If I were you I would google the study done in the UK for a complete description of the dosage. Suggest you not take it until you do that, but in answer to your question the people in the study(and I) take 1200 mg per day in divided doses, starting low and gradually working up to that very high amount.

I'm planning to do the same thing, but Ambroxol isn't sold in the US. Where have you been getting your supply?

Thanks for your post. I’ve ordered from them as well. They told me there’s a 5-box order limit for the 20 tablets x 60mg boxes. If I may ask please, how many boxes are you ordering at a time? And how often are you ordering your standard quantity?

Thank you for any comments or suggestions you may have to share.

Hi, UK trial is still to start due to delays on finding a solution to reduce number of tablets to be taken of a higher dose I believe. I have registered for the trial and waiting to hear back.

Please let us know if they find a source for high-dose Ambroxol. Though I live too far away to participate in the trial officially, I'm planning to start taking Ambroxol in the doses being studied, and I'd just as soon take fewe than 48 pills a day.

this is the response I received today from pd frontline

The Ambroxol study is due to start in late autumn/early winter 2024 due to slight delays. Unfortunately, this is all the information I have from the Ambroxol team at the moment.

Thank you for your post. Could you please share any further details? How did you find that China factory? (I’m only asking in case I can learn something from you about researching this topic) Are you comfortable sharing the name of the company, please? Are they held to any specific pharmaceutical manufacturing standard?

Thank you in advance for any information you can share.

Stimulants...Nicotine is the interesting one to me. Acts as an upper and downer. What else can do that?

My friend has started Ambroxol late December. I raised the dosage to 16 pills a day (480 mg). It seems to be showing some success. His mind is clearer. He is more focused. He sleeps better. He has less constipation. But no motor improvement. This is a general feeling. I do not really plan to increase the dose as he is not aware of the improvement. For him, if there is no motor improvement, there is no improvement at all. I should have documented things all the way but doing so I would feel as if I was treating him as a guinea pig. The level of awareness and consciousness is hard to reach when you experience so many difficulties on a daily level. There’s an app developed by an Irish woman that can help the follow up. You can find it is called My moves matter. Specially for PD.

Other than that the aftertaste is very bitter so it is hard to convince him to swallow more of these. 😉
