Editing: my rambling culminates in question about indicin levels

I used to think that once the process starts that it’s too late but the more I learn, the less I think that. Parkinson’s is a disease process that results from an autoimmune response to genetics , environment and lifestyle triggers. The more I learn the more I see glimpses of what I don’t know. What I do know for certain is that the immune system plays a huge part in the cascade culminating in Parkinson’s and the gut is the place to start. To think a pill or pills will resolve this is naive. Although Parkinson’s existed centuries ago, it was so rare that looking to what we have added to our existence points towards the many causes. I therefore think that the modern version of grains and other plant foods that have been manipulated to produce higher yields and be less appealing to pests, are definite contributors.

All that said, PWP have higher indicin in their urine. I eat very little meat, mostly just salmon, and tested higher than I should for indicin. Maybe though, the reduced capacity to digest meat is not due to the meat itself but gut distress caused by lectins, oxalates , seed oils, inflammation, sugar, etc. ??

Well said! And I agree with you about the benefit in stopping feeding the cascade and that maybe it is not the meat that is the problem. Diets are so complex (well... my diet is not complex at all)

We owned an 80 acre organic farm, and grew heirloom wheat, naked oats and buckwheat. You are correct, modern wheat has been crossbred and contains more chromosomes than ancient grains. When you combine it with chemical cultivation it's a recipe for disaster - our entire food supply is contaminated. Two farmers in Minnesota were charged with a 46 million dollar fraud scheme selling conventional grain as organic. With those numbers, it's been going on for years. I suspect digestive enzymes or lack thereof have a lot to do with gut dysbiosis. It feels like I am functionally malnourished. Dr. Gundry says that lectins are like shards of glass on the thin layer of cells lining the gut. If you have leaky gut, you're not doing yourself any favors by eating foods that irritate and damage the one cell layer thick lining. I don't think it's ever too late to stop the cascade. Sooner is better and leads to a more complete recovery. Blood renews every 90 days. Complete turnover of cells every 11 months, complete turnover of bone every 2 years.

Anecdote: I was hospitalized twice the end of December and once in January all - different hospitals. My nurse was a man who did not believe my age and had to confirm for himself after I was admitted, he said I was the youngest looking 60 year old he had ever seen. I thought it was a fluke, until I was hospitalized again last week and my female nurse said the same thing. So why the hell do I FEEL so old? It's like someone flipped a switch, it happened so fast. I want to feel on the inside how I'm perceived on the outside.

To say neurodegeneration “is not autoimmune” is really silly at this point. Autoimmunity is not only autoimmunity either. The complexity of disease is not so easily deduced nor categorized, fitting neatly in to the parameters of man’s definition of it. It is far more complex than that. That is an outdated and disproven model of thinking. Because our parts cease to function without the whole, addressing individual parts (just the brain, just the heart, just the gut) as if disease processes do not encompass all of our being is so compartmentalized and outdated that it is holding us back from discovering the root causes of Parkinson’s.

Our shoulder problems, back problems, digestive problems, mood problems, sleep problems are proof of how it is our whole being that is involved in this disease process. So, of course the immune system is involved. It’s just so darn obvious that I find debating it at this point to be infuriating bc my God, how is progress ever to be made if our egos won’t get out of the way enough to allow us to see when we have been wrong.

When someone is diagnosed with an autoimmune disease they're likely to get diagnosed with more - but really, there's just one. Why are ppl with autoimmune disease predisposed to cancer? It's also autoimmune.I feel this way about neurodegenerative diagnosis, they're variants of the same thing, when you consider all the overlaps. They're a spectrum. There is Paraneoplastic ALS and T-regs are in involved in ALS. Doesn't that make it autoimmune AND cancer? 🤔

My only quibble with what you have said is that you phrase it with “I feel.” You know. I know you know. But like me and most women, we are taught to downgrade our knowledge to feelings as feelings evolve whereas knowledge expands.
