Doctor Berg on fasting to treat autoimmune disease (I think PD is at least partially autoimmune)

Sorry I have not been posting much these last few weeks. I have been trying to trust my protocols and focus on life.

I am 26 hours into my (now) weekly 46 hour fast. I plan to fast every week from Friday at noon to Sunday at 10 AM. I think I can live with this schedule. This way I only miss my broccoli sprouts one day a week. I also skip some of my supplements on Saturday now (the ones requiring food and the probiotics).

I also intermittent fast eating between 10 AM and 6 PM on non-fasting days.

Here is a great recent video from Doctor Berg on fasting to treat autoimmune disease (I think PD is at least partially autoimmune): youtu.be/Mn0EWEulFzE

This retaining wall is one of the things I have been working on. I made all of the stones by pouring concrete into grocery bags.

I eat between 2 pm & 6 pm and fast 24 hours Tues 6 pm until Wed 6 pm, but you inspire me to increase that to a 48 hour fast.

Hello MB ~ I was wondering if you have noticed any benefit from this intermittent fasting and the 24 hour fast? Do you have any problems with becoming hypoglycemic and how much do you exercise while fasting? My HwP has a pretty fast metabolism and rides his e-bike over 100 miles per week (4-6 days/week) so I wonder/worry about hime getting hypoglycemic. Right now we kind of do a minimal intermittent 12 hour fast most days.

Thank you and have a fabulous day ~

I cannot connect any benefit to fasting because I do a lot of other things too, like exercise, sleep hygiene, etc., but I consider it perhaps the most important.

No concerns with hypoglycemia.

My exercise regime hasn't changed. I walk 2 - 3 miles/day and do an hour of calisthenics and go to the gym 4 or 5 days/week.

Wow! I am very impressed by your routine Marc! I walk a mile a couple/few times a week (but I have been working on projects, so that is something, but nowhere NEAR your program). Yay You!

Thank you for getting back to me. That is an impressive exercise program. Next week we’ll start adding in tai chi, HIIT, yoga ~ alternate one each day. I guess I’ll talk it over with my HwP and get his thoughts. I totally believe in fasting, maybe the truth of it is that I really don’t enjoy not eating☹️.

I have recently started us on green smoothies. Lots of good health benefits there also.

Again, thank you for your time!! Have a fabulous day!!!

Double wow! I walk, do yoga and some online pd exercise, and went to the gym for the first time in years this week.

What an inspiration!

Why such an ambitious retaining wall?

I planted that Willow tree years ago and it is not getting enough water. Hoping if I level the ground it will help the tree. Also, this is uphill from my house, so maybe help keep a little water away from the house too.

Impressive retaining wall. I was marveling at the uniform size of the ‘rocks’. Aah, the good ol’ pouring concrete into the grocery bags trick!

the things you learn here right? : ) I never heard of that trick before

One thing that is really cool about these concrete stones is: I built the wall on layer at a time. This means every "stone" molded to fit what was below it. The first layer is molded to the ground and subsequent stones are molded to fit the stones beneath them.

The drawback is that these "stones" are pretty much useless to use for anything else if I were to take the wall down :)

Well done Bolt, your posts are ever invaluable. And you're so committed and dedicated to helping and sharing with others that you're even apologizing for "not posting much". Well done 👍🏽

I believe fasting induces autophagy, good for way more than just autoimmune disease! Imo it’s a great strategy for neurological diseases where mitochondria are involved.

like Parkinson’s I mean. I do it too

I hereby rescind my PD diagnosis. You're looking good. You may well avoid it.

Hello Bolt, thanks for your post !!

How do you start with fasting, wenn you are already almost underweighted ?

And do you use ALA ?

Hello JANVAN, first let me say that I have a High School degree and am not qualified to advise anybody on anything medical.

I would Google "fasting when underweight" and see what you find. There are also many fasting groups on FB. And consult your doctor. Personally, I am not sure if fasting makes you lose weight. I have just started. I was about 170 when I started this a couple of weeks ago. I don't think I have lost any weight.

I do not take ALA (something new for me to Google). Good luck and reach out any time.

Thanks Bolt ‘ ! So, no ALA and NAC ? (because they seem to give a positive effect on the mitochondria…..I thought (wenn I think on all the research you have done) you would know this….

I do take NAC. 1200 MG in the evening with 1000 MG of Taurine:

NAC plus Taurine

Taurine and its analogs in neurological disorders: Focus on therapeutic potential and molecular mechanisms 2019: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a... The combination of a subeffective dose of taurine and low and subeffective doses of N-acetyl cysteine afforded better cytoprotection against rotenone induction than taurine treatment alone and action may be mediated via anti-oxidative mechanisms [86].
