My sleep quality has declined substantially over the past month. (Maybe time to give up coffee and see what happens.)

I limit myself to 2cups on regular coffee in morning. Then drink decaf the rest of the day.

Check compounds on decaf...there is a very evil one...cant remember the name tetra...something. sorry my sciencey memory is not great...Barley cup is a good substitute...i just threw away my decaf. Today.

Denatured has a bad connotation. I mainly drink decaf, not because of sleep issues, but because of High BP. Now that BP is better controlled maybe I will switch to regular till at least noon.

The most-common methods of decaffeination involve chemical solvents, usually ethyl acetate or methylene chloride. In the direct method, the coffee beans are steamed and then rinsed repeatedly with the chemical solvent to flush away the caffeine. britannica.com/story/how-is....

TCE had many uses in the past. It was used as a grain fumigant and pet food additive until its use was banned for food and medical uses in 1977. Until the mid-1970s, it was used to extract vegetable oils and spices and to extract caffeine for the production of decaffeinated coffee. atsdr.cdc.gov/tox-tool/tric...

I am not saying the use of any solvent is good....

Me too! Keeping cool enough at night without aircon is a challenge but a fan helps.

Coffee in the morning is probably ok - I stop at 12 noon so that gives me ten hours to clear the caffeine out of my system. Could not operate without a.m. coffee!

There ought to be an in-depth video on sleep for PwPs as there are so many specific issues for us.

I can fall asleep when I'm drinking a cup of coffee!Í didn't sleep very well for about 10 yrs, but I sleep much better now that I use a weighted blanket. I thought it would be hot but it keeps my temperature pretty even. I also wear satin/silk pajamas which helps me turn over.

Same here! I wonder if worrying about a Putin/like Dictator taking over my country, the USA, has anything to do with that, or could it be PD? My neurologist is not helpful, in explaining loss of sleep, for people with PD, to me! I have cut back on my caffeine, and now, here it is, the 2am, PD blogging time, again!

There are too many dictators all over the shop. Our sovereignty being taken away from us is a concern. At personal level especially. Searching the truth is a good way to take care of our lives. No much more we can do. Researching, supporting one another, eating well, exercising, informing ourselves, and not permitting any power hungry person anywhere to steal our sleep.

Hi! Have you cut down on activity by chance? It's been hot and humid here for a good part of August. Know hubby (PW)P and I weren't as active as always. He'll have regular tea every other day. Otherwise he drinks decaf.

I had trouble staying asleep and switched to half caff coffee. Once my sleeping got better went back to full caff. But feel I should stick to half caff, just haven't bought into that idea yet.

Maybe it's the Red Light ? I usually have no sleep issues, but I think since I started using my Red Light Coronet I started going to sleep earlier, and earlier, corresponding with an earlier, and earlier wake up. This left me tired, I have had it since 1/2022, used 1x a day, then 2x a day then time off, back on 1x daily, but not consistent lately. My sleep seems ok now. There may be a correlation, who knows ?

Depends on how quickly you metabolise caffeine. From a DNA study I found out I was a slow metaboliser so I cut it out - only drink decaf. Also I take 3 grams of glycine and a magnesium taurate capsule at bedtime and that gives me great sleep 6 nights out of 7, after years of waking nightly at about 3am and staying awake for hours. But I don't yet have PD - glycine is an amino acid and maybe it shouldn't be taken at the same time as L-dopa.

I'm only a few years into the PD journey, but my sleep has dramatically improved since I adopted a few practices. I take magnesium with my evening meal and especially since it's been hot, take a shower 1/2 hour before going to bed. I also use magnesium oil on my knees which has helped with restless legs. According to my smart watch I average just over 7 hours of sleep with 2-3 hours of deep sleep.
