Watch the Sept 2021 YouTube video of this Hong Kong M.D., Dr. Lin:

I'm still researching this -- but your feedback would be appreciated on anything to do with Chinese medicine and PD.

I don't know the recommended dosage, yet. But I found the supplements/herb here:

Uncaria Rhynchophylla (Guo Teng)

The herb Uncaria rhynchophylla, part of the Rubiaceae family, is used in traditional Chinese medicine. Uncaria rhynchophylla extract is made up of alkaloids, rhinchophylline, hirsutine, hirsuteine, corynanthine, corynoxine, and dihydrocorynantheine [109,110]. The most widely studied and named neuroprotective compositions among the alkaloids are rhinchophylline and isorhynchophylline [111,112].

In addition, the neuroprotection effect of Uncaria rhynchophylla has been reported in an experimental PD model [113]. Shim et al. documented that Uncaria rhynchophylla reduced neuronal cell death and ROS production, restored GSH levels in PC12 cells in case of toxicity of caspase-3 and 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) cells, and reduced the neuronal loss in the substantia nigra dopaminergic rats induced by 6-OHDA [113,114]. In the 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) induced SH-SY5Y and 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) mouse cell models, Uncaria rhynchophylla has been found to improve cell viability, attenuate dopaminergic neuronal significant nigra and striatum lowering, and inhibit heat-shock protein 90 and autophagy [115].

All these results, taken together, indicate that Uncaria rhynchophylla demonstrates neuroprotective activity through multiple mechanisms of neuronal defense against damage, which may be attributable to the beneficial combined action of the active compounds in Uncaria rhynchophylla.

These antioxidant compounds inhibit the anti-inflammatory effect by inflammatory mediation and the anti-apoptotic effect, modulating the event and preventing the activation of the caspase and decreasing ROS generation and improving the antioxidant protective mechanism.

Rhynchophylline is an alkaloid found in certain Uncaria species (Rubiaceae). However, recent studies revealed that isorhynchophylline can easily pass the BBB. These observations suggested that isorhynchophylline may be an anti-inflammatory substance used to treat NDs [116,117].

READ about Dr. Lin's 2011 positive experiment PD results here:

asianscientist.com/2011/07/....

and this 2011 study shows the COMPLETE HERBAL FORMULA!

proquest.com/docview/206080...

3.2. Treatment Effects within Groups

The mean score of PDQ-39 single index, total UPDRS and other parameters with significant change are shown in Table 3. TCM (The Chinese Medicine) therapy significantly reduced the complications of therapy from 4.22 points at baseline to 3.36 points at 12 weeks and 3.22 points at 24 weeks (UPDRS Part IV;

The results of this study showed that JWLJZT, made from a Chinese herbal decoction, significantly reduced some non-motor complications in patients with PD under conventional medicine treatment. The major improvement was reflected by the reduction of score in UPDRS IVC which assessed gastrointestinal disorders, such as anorexia, nausea and vomiting, sleep disturbances, such as insomnia and hypersomnolence, and symptomatic orthostasis.

In conclusion, the 11-herb TCM prescription resulted in significant improvement in some non-motor complications of conventional medicine treatment and communications abilities in patients with idiopathic PD. Studies of the biochemical mechanisms by which JWLJZT affects PD could point the way to further advances and even better clinical treatment of PD. Also, studies with larger sample sizes are required which would have increased statistical power and would be able to better determine if JWLJZT can offer long-term control of PD and retard the progression of this disease.

Is anyone using this?

Where did you get to with this? Gou-teng is Chinese cats claw bark. I do think the best thing is always to take the whole herb, rather than an isolated compound. Nature always puts in other compounds to balance and support the whole. It takes me back to meaning to put myself in the hands of a traditional Chinese Medicine doctor! They do really well with Parkinsons and this video helps explain why. I think herbs and acupuncture could make a huge difference to anyone. There are also supervised student clinics if finances are tight.
