NADH instead of NR, NMN, or niacin?

NADH might be better than our other options. Emphasis on might. Please share any knowledge on this!

NADH increases neurotransmitters. NADH is directly involved in the production of the critical neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine.

Dopamine is usually made inside the neurons that use it. The amino acid tyrosine is first converted to L-DOPA through the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. L-DOPA is then converted to dopamine.

It looks like there was some interest in NADH for PD in the late 90s: Is NADH effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease? 1998 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/980...

"Most Parkinson's disease (PD) treatments palliate symptoms by increasing nigrostriatal dopaminergic tone. A unique strategy for accomplishing this pharmacological end-point proposes using reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to boost endogenous dopamine production, since NADH indirectly supplies reducing equivalents to the rate-limiting, tyrosine hydroxylase-catalysed step of dopamine synthesis. Support for using NADH in PD treatment includes claims that NADH stimulates tyrosine hydroxylase and dopamine biosynthesis in tissue culture and humans, as well as case series associating intravenous and oral NADH administration with PD rating scale improvements. Theoretical and practical arguments against NADH include underlying NADH disposal impairment in PD and failure of a placebo-controlled trial to show any clear benefit. While NADH may yet prove to ameliorate parkinsonism, recommendations for its use in PD are premature. "

Hey Bolt - I hate to be a bother, but I have a question I believe you could help with. Not too long ago I read this page and purchased some NADH for HWP. But it wasn't too long after that, if I recall correctly, there was another discussion about how NADH was harmful, maybe something about cancer. I can't find the second posting on NADH, and I don't want to use it if it is questionable. I have looked for the second discussion on HU without success. Thank you for your thoughtful reply.

Hi! I don't know much about NADH (I am a straight Niacin guy), but I think the caution you are recalling had to do with Nicotinamide Riboside. Here are some links:

Thanks Bolt you posted the exact link I was looking for. Sure wish I WAS a little better on finding info. I think NADH is a form of niacin? But I think back to just niacin is best. how many mg do you take daily?

I take 250 mg, based on the successful open label trial: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

I take flushing, the trial used time released.

It is helpful for me in the morning I take it before breakfast and shortly after my levodopa dose. It gives me energy and I can lift my limbs for exercising. The affects dont last all day though

Check out the website where I get my supply. You have to be very careful which brand you get

Thank you! Have you compared it with NR or NMN? I do wonder is NADH might be just as good if not better and the NR and NMN are just a new marketing / profiting opportunity.
