My theory; High dose melatonin increases glutamate Excitotoxicity which is a primary cause of neurodegeneration in PD

(Editing to add; I want to be wrong about this! I likely am wrong. But given the importance, it is worth confirming. )

This is my THEORY backed up by what I am researching. I will post more on this as soon as I compile more information. I think this is so urgent that I am putting this out now.

The more you supplement with something that increases GABA the body seeks balance by up regulating glutamate. I have read and heard this.

I know how wonderful melatonin is. There is an abundance of posts and sources that elaborate upon that in great depth.

Does high doses of melatonin increase gaba which in turn increases glutamate? Too much glutamate results in glutamate Excitotoxicity which is a root cause of neurodegeneration.

I have more than just the two examples below but I need to refind them. I’m almost always multi tasking while on HU. Presently making dinner. 😊. But this is serious and I feel I need to share this theory ASAP

Dr. Elizabeth Yurth is a big proponent of high dose melatonin. She has stated that too much though can actually cause someone to have a harder time sleeping because they become more aroused. She did not say why.

I believe it is bc at a high dose, the body seeks balance and over compensates with increased glutamate.

Kia posted this video. At approx 14 minutes she states that too much GABA is compensated with more glutamate.

Interesting. I believe GABA is detrimental to ppl with ALS. The primary pathology is glutamate excitotoxicity.
