How much Zandopa for 15-year diagnosis, needing symptom relief?

Hello! Dad has had PD for 15 years and is currently taking neuro meds like C/L along with Zandopa. How much is safe to take of Zandopa? Wondering if we can significantly increase it, as he is in desperate need to some form of relief from pain and PD shaking/symptoms. Thank you! Sandra

Hi! I know everybody is different in terms of what works best for them. In my husband’s case, he wouldn’t be walking if it wasn’t for Zandopa. He takes 1/2 Carbidopa/Levadopa (25/100) and .142 ounces of Zandopa. The Carbidopa in the Carbidopa/Levadopa keeps him from getting nauseous.

A couple of things about Zandopa:

- You’ll need to experiment to find the best dosage

- I measure it (.142 ounces) using a kitchen scale. My husband is very sensitive and I have to make sure it is exactly.142 ounces. Anything less and he doesn’t move. Anything more and he has terrible dyskinesia.

- Zandopa has tiny clumps in it. It made my husband gross out when he swallowed it. I now sift it with a small sifter to eliminate the clumps.

- I mix .142 ounces with cold water in a cup with a lid and shake vigorously in order to mix it.

- It tastes bad.

Like I said, Zandopa has been a lifesaver for my husband. He has tried everything else that people have suggested but nothing has worked for him besides Carbidopa/Levadopa, Zandopa, and exercise!

Well done, i can imagine how tedious and how much patient you would have had to have, experimenting continuously to find that exact amount that works best for your husband..

I will have to say though that as time goes on and your husband's body changes with respect to the disease, even that exact amount that would work best your husband would be changing continuously

Thanks Trish! :). Great explanation about finding exact amt that currently works (which also would explain how to refigure amount if needs adjusting later... experiment and weigh), how you mix and how you found to make it more palatable. I believe that Mom and Dad can start adjusting any he takes until his symptoms improve again. Have you ever coupled it with Ashwaghanda? Sandra
