For those who have had DBS, did you gain weight after the surgery? I have read it is possible to gain weight as the “ reward or impulsive part” of our brain is affected.
DBS and weight gain: For those who have had... - Cure Parkinson's
DBS and weight gain
Hi. I have gained approximately 20 kg since November 2016. I would never be without the DBS but I hate being overweight and the brain doesn’t want to be low in sugar. It’s very hard to loose weight.
I had DBS almost 2 years ago and still struggle with weight loss. Parkinson’s has made weight gain a challenge for me. So DBS didn’t change a thing.
My husband had DBS in 2005 and has not gained weight.
Thank you for your response. What did your husband do to not gain weight?
Nothing really. He has always liked his food but in 16 years he is maybe 6lbs heavier but obviously he is less active and older. He had had PD 28 years. He has actually gone on the odd diet and managed to lose a few pounds.
I had DBS 5 years ago and have put on a good 25 lbs. I was always on the slim side without really trying, but this extra weight is impossible to lose!
I stopped shaking, started taking a mild antidepresant and gained 35 pounds. Yes I was skinny - but no longer
I took 10 kilo in the year following the DBS and i hate it! I was mad that nobody told me about this but my DBS was done in 2013 and at that time it wasn't really known.
my dad had dbs in august... and now three months later, he has gained 7-8 pounds, which very positive for us because he had loss so much weight... he is getting to a healthier weight for sure.
