Essential oils for tremors

reedboat2 profile image
22 Replies

My main symptom is tremor which as is widely known is the most difficult symptom to control. Inspired by a post on this forum, I recently started using the essential oils Vetiver and Helichrysum, mostly at night, and they actually seem to be helpful. I have no previous experience with essential oils and no knowledge of how they work. It’s too early to tell for sure and maybe placebo effects, but I thought I’d put it out there.

I use Essential Oils for many things. A quick check in my Reference Guide for PD usage recommends Helichrysum, Lavender, Peppermint, Cedarwood, Myrrh, Basil, Sandalwood, Rosewood single oils

GLF, Peace and Calming, Valor and Brain Power Blends

There are also nutritional products like Sulfurzyme and BLM to name a few.

I am not suggesting you need all of them. Some oils work better for different people, especially since PD symptoms are not all the same for everyone.

Make certain the oils you use are Therapeutic grade and not diluted with alcohol or other products. (I personally use Young Living oils).

Please let us know if the oils you are using continue to help you.

Thanks for this list. Very helpful. What carrier oil(s) do you use? Do you use any internally?

I'm a big fan of EOs and have tried frankincense and lavender on my husband for a few things. I buy from Mountain Rose Herbs, mainly for myself.

I generally use almond or coconut as carrier oils. Some oils I use undiluted. Young Living carries a line of oils for internal use.

I use frankincense on my face. great for the skin.

There is a type of massage done for PD with the oils. I think it's called "Raintree."

It is the Raindrop technique

I have just recently been learning about, and using, essential oils for both myself and my husband (PWP) and absolutely love them. I use Basil, Myrrh, Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Cinnamon Bark & Frankincense. I also have Vetiver but haven't really used it much yet - will change that now! Same as you, I generally use almond or coconut as carrier oils but some oils I use undiluted.

What is the 'Raindrop Technique'? btw - I haven't heard of that before.

I haven't experienced one yet but those who have say it is wonderful. If you google raindrop technique, it should answer your questions

symphony of cells has an amazing neurological protocol. more specific that the rain drop technique or the aroma touch technique.

My main symptom is also tremors (right and left arms). I am using Barlowe’s 40% mucuna (6caps per day) but it doesn’t help for tremors. How many caps per day are you taking and i am curious about your experience with eo, does it reduce your tremors ?

Hi Marcet. I'm taking Barlow's 40% Mucuna every 6 hours so that's 4 per day. I'm also taking Life Extension Dopa Mind 2x per day for enzyme suppression. I take my evening Mucuna dose at 11pm, and tend to wake up at around 5am pretty shakey. So now I'm adding 2-3 capsules of Paradise Herbs 15% at around 3am. Mucuna helps somewhat with tremor but not completely. Hence the need for sleep aids. With my 3am dose I also take 200mg L-Theanine and Barlow's Chamomile extract. That helps me get back to sleep with no side effects or AM drowsiness. As for EO's, I have little knowledge or experience with them. The two that were recommended to me for tremor are Vetiver and Helichrysum applied to the temple. I've tried them without definitive result. Vetiver is an interesting, very earthy oil. All I can say is try it and see what you think. I don't believe it can hurt you. Best of luck and be well - JG

Thanks for sharing. Could you let us know if you feel a positive effect from essential oil that you've been taking.

copaiba has had amazing results reducing tremors.

in reply to

SarahMAT,

Can you describe how exactly you are using copaiba oil to reduce your tremors and tell a little bit about what and where your tremors are like before and after copaiba? How quickly does it work for you? How often do you have to use it in order to get the positive tremor reduction???

Thank you!

I have to start by saying, I can't answer your question. In every situation it depends.Everyone's system and situation is different and will respond differently. I will tell you that I have seen a video of a person whose tremors slowed from large scale tremors to barely noticeable trembling in under a minute when the endocannabinoid system got cannabinoids/copiaba to support the neurological system. Does that happen every time? I can't say. It can happen really quickly and it can be a process of meeting the body's needs over time. If you are to ingest essential oils I do recommend you do your research and find ones that are pure and for ingestion. working with a trained professional is a great idea also. Hope this helps.

SarahMAT,

First, thank you very much for the reply!

I'm not sure why you made your original post if you can not even say how you used Copaiba oil to achieve " amazing results reducing tremors". It sounds great, but with no information on how you used it, what do we do with that?

I am not here to treat just to educate what I have learned. Also to learn what others has worked for others. If this is something that interests you I suggest finding a qualified professional to help guide you in finding the correct dose and application for you.

Are you a PWP? We try to share as much information as possible regarding effective therapies. This usually will include brands, sometimes with links and also dosages that have worked. Also, with caveats quite often. Specifics are most helpful.

Can you share with us how this is applied? Be greatly appreciated.

in reply to Juliegrace

no I am not a PWP, doing research for a family member.

in reply to

SarahMAT,

No one expects you to tell them how to treat anything, I just asked how "you used Copaiba oil" for yourself to treat PD tremors because you said it was "amazing results reducing tremors".

When you Google search "Copaiba oil Parkinson's Disease Tremor", all you get are people on different forums such as HU and no dosing or application information, which leaves us what?

I first would like to say that this is not me treating anyone just educating on the use of essential oils. If this is something you are incline to try then please find a qualified practitioner that will guide you using essential oils. You can find this information in any essential oil book or on the web. The appropriate dosage for topical use of essential oils is different for each individual and should be tailored to their own personal circumstance. Start with the lowest amount that makes sense, and then increase from there until you reach desired outcome. adult dilution rates 3-6 drops per 1 teaspoon(diluted with fractionated coconut oil or any carrier oil you would like to use). this can be applied to reflex points on hands, ears, and feet, or along the spine and the base of the skull. every 20 mins in an acute situation and 2-6 hours as needed otherwise. if one was to ingest the essential oils I would first make sure you know the purity of the oil and where it comes from. Not everyone agrees with ingestion of essential oils. ingestion of the oil can be done by either one of two ways. You can put the oil in a gel cap like a pill or drop them sublingually. typically one drop per 1 teaspoon of liquid is the dilution rate. usually no more than 2-3 drops within a 4-8 hour timeframe. Hope this helps you.
