Limiting protein

For those of you who have to limit protein during the day so that meds will work, and also try to keep carbs on the low side, what do you eat during the day? I’ve been having a smoothie in the morning, but I’ve been including nut milk, nut butter, collagen powder and chia seeds as well as lots of greens and berries. I’m finding meds working less well and want to shift protein to the evening, but not sure what to eat that will give me energy during the day! Suggestions, recipes and experiences all welcome. Also, what form of protein is most rapidly absorbed? Thinking I might be able to slip some into the smoothie, just not so much.

nuts and nut butters are proteins so I'd cut back on those in your smoothie

Yes difficult problem. I take first med on empty stomach and wait until it properly works until I have unsweetened muesli for breakfast (Complex carbs ). Then I don’t have lunch until next dose working a few hours later. Generally have salad with bit of meat, tuna, cheese or low carb bread sandwich.

Husband's neurologist didn't say to limit protein. In taking C/L he is to take 40 minutes before meals. Some days this is hard to do if you don't eat the same time every day!

Regarding your collagen, you may want to time it when you take it, I also take it daily and I don’t know about yours but mine is high in protein so take it n hour after or before taking your Parkinson’s meds. My diet is similar to Buckholt’s and I like my almond milk too but I have to time that too. I use the green naked juice and blend that with fruit, which works great! You can also try coconut milk, it’s yummy!

I eat gluten-free granola for breakfast, adding unsweetened coconut and sliced almonds (to cut down on carbs and sugars in granola in proportion to the whole meal) and add fresh berries in season or dried unsweetened cherries or dates. For lunch I will sometimes make a Buddha bowl--sautéed veggies in olive oil, a quinoa/rice/dried chick pea mix I get from Wegman's that cooks in 5-10 minutes, sliced avocado. Other times humus heaped on 1/2 gluten-free English muffin topped with cooked and raw veggies (love radishes!). I've also done veggies cooked inside corn tortillas. I tend to put avocado on anything and everything I eat for lunch. Hope this helps.
