What about supplementing with acetylcholine given the following from Stanford. I imagine it is not as simple as adding another supplement.

Interesting topic. I have noticed that an anticholinergic - Benadryl - exacerbated my motor impairment. Unfortunately, according to the linked article, increasing acetylcholine did not improve walking ability.

Hi park_bear, I believe you have written about folate and PD. My husband can have very restless legs at night ( not every night) and he really does not want to add another prescription med, takes C/L, selegeline and gabapentin. I read that folate can help, but if I remember correctly you had recommended no folate for PD. Is there a problem with folate and PD? Thanks.

Hi Sydney,

Yes there is a problem with supplementing folate. The Western diet contains adequate folate. Please read the details in my writing here:

I understand the issues with folate supplementation, but I sometimes don't meet the RDA for folate even though I eat lots of greens. This happens on days when I don't eat beans. I take in around 1500 calories per day & track my intakes with cronometer.

I don't think folic acid fortification is as common as it used to be.

I take a B complex with all the folate as methylfolate; I wish it were at 50% of the RDA instead of 100%. I used to take all my B's separately but it is a pain in the neck. Am considering the B minus.

In fact supplementing for Acetylcholine loss is as simple as adding a supplement or two.

My spouse complained of feeling like a ‘drunken sailor’. So I added Acetyl L-Carnitine and Phosphatidylcholine. This was backed by a solid B-Complex with a generous compliment of B5. Need I say complaints ceased ✨✌🏾✨

Do spend the time required to understand this. I assure you it is well worth it.🌺

I’ve been researching this and want to give it a try. Here’s an excerpt from a paper I just read supporting cholinergic damage may cause falls:

“In addition, gait speed, falling and FOG (freezing of gait) are associated with cholinergic denervation in the thalamus and cortex [69–71].”

My husband is very sensitive to supplements now though, with many of them causing hallucinations. What dosages did you start with?

When I fist came to the understanding that ‘gait speed, falling and FOG (freezing of gait) are associated with cholinergic denervation’ I fist started with Phosphatidylcholine. Product here - amazon.com/gp/product/B00AE...

As my understanding grew I added acetyl-L-carnitine. Your can read about it here

nootropicsexpert.com/acetyl...

The product I use here -

For both products I use one a day. They are in my after breakfast stack.

Trust this helps 🌹
