A new treatment for PD?

Please read this very recent article about a supplement called 'AtremoPlus' ? It sounds like what we're all waiting for - an effective treatment without side effects.

It sounds great, except that the cost would be around £5 per day! Before I even try it for a couple of weeks, I'd like to hear what some of you experts think.

From the website which I will not link to:

"AtremoPlus®, the guarantee of an innovative nutritional supplement rich in L-Dopa of 100% Natural Origin"

Ooh boy! It has got levodopa from natural vegetable substances! Wow! What an advance!

This morning I have little patience for nonsense.

Indeed. Eat their liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Or maybe if you have trouble believing BS in the mornings you should just wait until afternoon.

Fascinating. I wish they said how many people were in the study. The price really is off putting, though.

That's ok, it was a scientific study based on a survey of two guys I know.

Some people don't believe it works without a high price. Someone recently mentioned taking advantage of the placebo effect...reminds me how Cindy Crawford recently hawked her beauty line by telling people that her special scientist grew these rare Spanish melons you could rub on your face to look like her. I think she called it "Meaningful." Complete with a product brand registration circle so you knew it was true.

I didn’t realize that it really only works with Sinemet. I’m not on that.

Not an expert in PD, but have research training and so am cautious about this kind of article. In the main trial discussed, no mention of the size, duration or stage of the clinical trial. The list of journals where something about this research is purportedly published, are not links and do not give you the names of the studies, the scientists who conducted the research, etc. Hard to do a search with only the commercial name of the supplements and the journal name (not one of which I ever heard of.) If true, this would be awesome but before you purchase it, be sure that this is not just another ad for another set of supplements. I would wonder if this is just a come on to take your money.

As I said, it was a scientific study based on a survey of two guys I know, so put your mind at ease.

Yes I tried this product sourced by a company in Spain and took it as recommended together with Sinemet. It is intended to make the dopamine in Sinemet more effective. I took it over a period of 2 months and it may have helped ie reduced the severity of the tremor, but not sufficiently to justify the cost. I did not try taking it at higher doseage levels...partly because I did not find the company's presentation that convincing and research similarly unconvincing and at that price I could not afford it. But it is worth trying and is not a con.

Ok, you heard of the phrase "Look for the union label"? Be sure to look for that reassuring sign of quality, the statement somewhere that "This is not a con." That's a relief.

My wife takes AtremoPlus to help with the off times berween her Sinemet dosages. It really works for her and has better results and less side affects than pharmacy products. She doesn’t follow any regular dosage of the AtremoPlus, only uses it when she needs it. Still she’s dosing probably three times a day. Yes, it’s expensive, but if it works.......
