Parkinson: Does parkinson cause you to... - Cure Parkinson's
Parkinson
My husband no longer takes Sinemet ( or the generic replacement) during the day because amongst other things it put him to sleep. With no meds he is awake alert all day. It might be the meds and not Parkinsons that makes you sleepy.
What drugs does he take? My husband took mirtazapine (Remeron) and it made him want to sleep all day. Now his dose is much reduced and he doesn’t need to sleep at all in the day.
I'd say yes. Fatigue was one of my first symptoms. I do take sinemet and mucuna but minimal amounts. Getting good rest is important and one way to do that is to exercise! Read John Pepper's writings.
I say if I could sleep like that I would be in heaven. Most Parkinson’s patients can’t sleep.
PD usually doesn't make you sleep too much, usually not enough. How long have you known you have PD? Could be a little bit of depression making you sleep? What meds & dosages are you on?
I could easily sleep 12-14 hours a day. I awaken several times during the night and know that my sleep is far from restful. The Meds that I take at night also leave me feeling very “hung over” in the morning. Do you take meds before you go to bed? Are you on levodopa and does that make you sleepy? I am trying to figure out the same issues for myself and would appreciate anything we might figure out together.
As it was mentioned here most of PdPs have trouble falling and staying asleep with some suffering from REM sleep issues. I found that dopamine agonists (e.g. pramopixol) made me narcoleptic. I could fall asleep any time without any warning. I also felt exhausted all the time. My neurologist got me off this medication and now I take 1/2 .25mg pill before I go to bed. This hekos me fall asleep.
Have you doctor order a b-12 blood test. Mine was very low. Dr prescribed b-12 shots and supplements. Helped my fatigue enormously. Low b-12 common in PD.
