LCHF v Keo

Yes-@MBAnderson, that’s great on both of you. Dr Terry Wahl’s had remarkable /miraculous improvement on essentially the same w/more extreme measures> keto . I think dairy and gluten free is attainable and if so, will be the best for me (& maybe most of us w Neuro disease). Although Mischley does not prescribe gluten free & is in favor of Mediterranean based on her studies, I think I’ll do it for good measure as it aids in keeping overall carbs lower/ in check!

I went on LCHF, Gluten Free with IF, couple years ago. It was hard at first but has worked out well. My wife has accompanied me on this journey, which has definitely helped. Started off at 186 lbs. Lost 8 lbs the first month. Over past year my weight has stabilized at 170. When I graduated High School I weighed 168😁. At this point I cannot imagine going back to carbs or gluten. IF, which is a critical part of the program is still a challenge, but getting better at it. Combine with exercise & supplements and go for it.

Good advice Reed! I’m pretty much on same combined with supplements and exercise too. And feel better than I did 2 years ago.

I followed the Wahles protocol for 10 yrs.

Excellent! I have suggested that to people in our town, and have given them her book to help them have a path to recovery

no constipation.....i guess i felt better but did not change the my progression rate nor rid me of symptoms. cheers!

its definitely a healthy way to eat and alleviates slow stomach emptying which effects l-dopa activation, keeps your gut health in line but i cannot directly attribute pd symptom alleviation other then the gut. cheers

Hidden- agree w remedy for slow-stomach emptying. Wish it did more for your other symptoms, however.

Hi there, I have been on GlutenFree/Dairy Free etc for some time and not to loose weight I am compensating with generous helpings of high protein foods. But I did notice that high protein meals lower L-Dopa's efficiency which is a known problem. And now I see this recommendation :

quote

Author: Dr. Alan R Gaby, MD Jonathan V. Wright, MD|

Following is the excerpt from the above book related to Parkinson's Disease

1. Diet: Ingestion of a very-low-protein diet in the morning and afternoon (restricting dietary protein to the evening meal) has been used to enhance the effectiveness of L-dopa therapy. This diet may require a reduction in the dosage of L-dopa.

Unquote.

I am starting to implement this recommendation this week, but low carbs and low Protein ... Is that sustainable? Has anyone followed this low protein protocol for morning/lunchtime?

Let’s define “low protein”......5gm? At .8gm/Kg of ideal body wt. as a baseline (45-65 gm Pro/d for most) then how do we define protein Rx for the daily. % would work; maybe 10% at B and L then 80% at “dinner”? I drink my smoothie all day (B & L). Eat my dinner as early as possible. Have just started C/L. (Sinemet).

Thanks vm Amy, that's helpful, but I need to do some more homework on the protein content of various foods. Cheers, Gérard

Here’s what I’ve mostly settled in on: take C/L 2 hours away from meals, try to keep meals within 8 hour time period, eat as much veggies as possible, keep carbs as low as possible, keep protein portions down to roughly 3-4 oz, use high quality plant based saturated oils. I don’t worry too much about the rest. Remember the best diet is the one you can stay on. BTW I have found great Keto recipes on the blog Wholesome Yum by Maya Krampf. I get her email updates, and she just published a cookbook. Check it out. 😅
