Hello, i got a question about exercise. I am a sprinter and always enjoyed it. I know the main trial for slowing brain disease was 30 min high intense max HR, on a treadmill. How do they know hitt workouts are not the same or better at protecting the brain. Have the done more trials on exercising? Or they don't want to cause they don't make money on drug pushing. seems this should be studied more. In quick intense intervals the brain mitocondra function better, and dopamine seems realised quicker. I don't know i get bored running long distance. I feel more energised doing quick workouts. Any thoughts?

The only exercise program that can work is one that you feel motivated to engage in. Stick with what motivates you.

I think you're right, the studies did not do a comparison. The studies (I've read) indicate that 30 minutes of high intensity aerobic training works. I don't think they know whether not sprinting works as well, but since you like it better, that matters and, surely, it's good for you. I'm jealous.

Hi Garth. It matters not whether walking bores you, if it can reverse your Pd symptoms. Walking as fast as you can for one hour, every second day has reversed my Pd and I have been medication-free since 2002. Look att my videos.

Walking doesn't bore me running long distance does. It awesome what you have done, and i wish u continued success. I would do anything to protect my brain. I beleive all forms of exercise benefit u not just walking. I just saying the need to do more trials on it.

Hi Girth10

Who is going to pay to do trials on exercise, if it helps people to get better?

That is not good for business!

While you are waiting for other information, why don;t you start doing fast walking for three months and see how much better you feel?

I need to connect with you to take this further. Google my name and see if you can contact me as I am not allowed to give my website address on this site.

John i understand big pharm runs everything. I been to 5 neuros 2 said could be early PD. Most of my symptoms are autonomic so i fear a way worse disease then PD. It been two years and i have no movement issues, but i a exercise nut. I went to Mayo clinic were the said it's not PD or MSA. I don't have any cardinal features of PD. I had a bunch of other symptoms. I also know some people have symptoms several years before. I try to stay postive cause being negative creates stress, which makes everything worse. I only on here cause i beleive if anyone knows about brsin struggle it's warriors like u with PD. I know they said i don't have i was excited, but they never really said what all my symptoms were except neuropathy. In which i don't have pins and needle feelings in my fingers in toes like most with neuropathy.

My wife has had neuropathy in her left leg for over fifteen years. Her neuropathy was cause by a botched up back operation to the lower spine.

I do not know specifically about exercise and PD, but do know a bit about training for overall performance enhancing. The untrained body will respond well to almost any knid of program. The best coaches vary the program every 2-3 weeks by changing the exercises, the intensity and the volume. Basically doing the same program continuously will eventually stop getting positive results and get the opposite.

I talked about this last year. Dr Mercola wrote about HIIT: Hyper Intense Interval Training. He first used a stat bike then switched to an elliptical trainer. The goal of HIIT is to get the heart rate to 90% of maximum. Do it for 30 seconds then rest for 90 seconds then repeat. I've seen and talked to him at medical conferences. He told me not to use a treadmill, too much chance for injury. And he was right. I tore both Achilles. But I still use a treadmill. I set it at 8% grade and 6MPH. I jump on and run for 30 seconds. The final few seconds I'm trying not to be bounced off the machine. I do eight 30 second sprints and eight 90 second rests. He makes the point that the workout stimulates Growth Hormone secretion.
