This doesn't have a lot of detail but I thought I would post it.....

Women's History Month - Dr. Stephanie Miller

A long-time friend of RSB, Stephanie Miller is Board Certified in Neurologic Physical Therapy, Chair and Professor of the Krannert School of Physical Therapy, and Program Director of Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Indianapolis.

"As a physical therapist and researcher I have been working with patients with Parkinson’s disease for over 25 years. I have been connected to RSB since 2008. I became very excited about what I saw at RSB during my first visit back in 2008 that I immediately knew I wanted to start conducting research with the program. I’ve been fortunate that the RSB organization, coaches and boxers have embraced me and my work over the years. I am proud to be able to share that our research at the University of Indianapolis has found that boxing exercise at Rock Steady Boxing is effective. Participation in intense boxing training over time is associated with better mobility and better perception of quality of life."

At RSB, we are very fortunate to have researchers like Dr. Miller and Dr. Fiems conduct studies on what makes RSB so effective.

I strongly object to users of acronyms who do not start by introducing them i.e. Rock Steady Boxing for RSB !... I consider them impolite... otherwise thank you for the information.

Of all the things to strongly object about....Laglag, as always grateful to you for encouraging people to exercise and RSB in particular.

I was a little shocked when I saw the word "impolite". Stephanie used the phrase "Rock Steady Boxing" in her article, it wasn't at the beginning but it was in there. They must be stressed from the Covid shutdown. 😷

We need a TOA (table of acronyms).

Google for them, they existdd

p.s. retrospectively I regret not having been more diplomatic... while also noting that diplomacy often dilutes one's earnest feelings... i.e. "impolite" gets my message accross more expeditiously than "lacking empathy for the un-initiated"...

Does anyone on this board use a boxing bag or punching ball (which I use) daily as a part of their exercise regimen and/or is (or has been) a part of a Rock Steady Boxing program? punching ball helps me a lot, interested if it does so for anyone else here.

I've been in Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) since January 2007, they opened in October 2006. So I know that boxing helps PwP's. Í have seen people give up their walkers and canes from going to RSB. RSB has over 800 affiliates all around the world. It works and it's fun also. Watch some of the videos on YouTube. You'll see most people are smiling and that's something to brag about for someone with Parkinson's!

I've had Parkinson's for 17 years. I'm on C/L 6-7/day. I also take Gocovri and I'm still driving, still doing most of the things I used to do. I worked for 10 years with Parkinson's and then retired at 57, which was 7 years ago.

that's truly great PD management!
