Can't seem to stop constant underarm odor

Hello,

My wife has had PD for around four years. This strong underarm odor always returns in 1-2 days after a good cleaning. The anti-perspirant deodorants make no difference at all, because she very seldom, if ever, perspires/sweats. I've started using my Brut deodorant on her but that was no help either. I'm wondering if it could be PD related or medication related?

Her PD related meds are: Sinemet 25-100 x 7 per day, - Sinemet ER 25-100 1 at bedtime - Entacapone x 2 per day - B-1 200 mg per day.

Her other meds are: Keppra 250mg 2 per day - Lorazepam 4mg per day - Lexapro 10mg x 2 per day - Oxybutynin 1 per day - Lisinopril 1 per day - Amlodipine 1 per day.

Does any one have any thoughts or experiences like this. All of her medications are working well.

Many thanks,

Mike

If this underarm odor is a new development for your wife, and if she's experiencing constipation, perhaps the problem is because of sub-optimal detoxification.

As to only once 1-2 days cleaning, you might want to use natural baby wipes twice a day to help with the issue.

To help with her detox, look into supplementing NAC and glycine (PM).

Get pure powder forms and add to her beverages.

Hi Rescuema, i’m interested in your idea of detox...Could you give me more information about which companies have NAC in powder form and glycine as well? Thanks

Hi Oceanflow. I search for a product name plus powder on Amazon to find pure powder forms instead of pills. I get powder form whenever possible to avoid fillers.

An example would be "NAC powder" or "Glycine powder" for the search.

I generally prefer Now brand but currently using Nutricoast's NAC.

Glycine is one of my favorite things to add to teas because it's literally like a sweetner, but I could only do it at night because it makes me sleepy.

Disposable wipes are a good idea, you can try using cornstarch powder. Make sure there's no talc in it. Regular, kitchen cornstarch can help also.

Clean your washingmascine with Clorin once in month. Is the smell strong, repulsing like a molding stuff?? Any respiratory signs, coffin?

If you have a front loading laundry machine, use powder detergent. Using liquid detergent will cause that terrible moldy smell, no matter what you do with periodic cleaning.

I get strong odor when I am in Ketosis, goes away if I add carbs to my diet. I'm also thinking detoxing might be it. Any rash under the arms?

389poncho,

Chlorophyll will help to detox but more specifically it is thought to absorb the toxins in your skin and gut that cause the odor. It is available as a liquid and pills. The liquid is easy if a person has problems swallowing pills which is a common issue in PWP.

Google chlorophyll and underarm odor and you will find a lot of info. Chlorophyll has many uses and a good safety profile. It is also useful for foot odor.

Probiotics can be useful also, but I would try the chlorophyll first to see if it is enough by itself.

Please keep us posted on how she does and share with the forum as this is a common issue for some.

Dear Art,

Thank you soooo much for your suggestion. Thank you ALL for your very helpful responses. My wife still takes tablets like champ so I will try that first and report back after enough time has passed to see if it helped. What a great group of wonderful folks you are. {;-)

Hi Art,

The chlorophyll was the hot ticket for my wife. I was using 50mg gel caps spread out 3 times per day. It helped maybe a little, but not much. Then I went to 100 mg capsules 3 times per day. That was the answer. It's been working great!! Thank you again.

389poncho,

I am very glad that the chlorophyll worked for your wife's underarm odor. It also works to detox and for foot odor. PD is hard enough, but adding underarm odor to the list of problems is not helpful. 😷😷😷

Poncho, thank you for coming back and reporting your wife's success with chlorophyll for the purpose! You never know when someone with a similar problem may read what you just posted and is able to also benefit as your wife did, plus you figured out the effective dose and that will be a real timesaver for the next person to try chlorophyll!!!

If it's some sort of growth, bacterial/fungal, rub some regular bleach on it, let it dry.

I have heard of some folks having luck with a thin dab of coconut oil under each arm daily as a natural remedy. Also, apple cider vinegar has a following...google each to see if there's interest on your part.

You should have your wife checked for a fungal or candida infection.

Cornstarch feeds bacteria on the skin, which is what is causing the odor. I don't recommend talc or cornstarch powders. Baking soda is irritating to the underarm area.

I've tried just about everything and can't tolerate deodorant anymore, my skin blisters and peels off. What does help for me is Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes sold at Target. I also use Honest hand sanitizer spray - it works great!

The dead skin in the armpits could cause odor. Dandruff shampoo lifts the dead skin as it is showered away. I use a scrub sponge soaked in dandruff shampoo.

Try cranberry capsules or unsweetened juice to help kidneys work better. Lots of fluid. , too. When I have that problem my kidneys need the cranberry to help me flush out toxins and I am usually dehydrated from not drinking enough water, or combination of these and bowels not moving well enough. Eat fresh fruit and fiber, sunshine and exercise to go with them. Aunt Bean
