It does not stop progression. Not sure of success rate.
Hi Yhae. I have not had DBS because I have found a better way of overcoming many of my Pd symptoms, by doing fast walking.
I do know that DBS does NOT SLOW DOWN THE PROGRESSION OF PD.
Walking costs NOTHING! It is natural, but fast walking is not natural,; you have to concentrate on what you are doing when you walk fast. That is the SECRET! It does something in the brain to make it produce GDNF, which is a natural protein which actually repairs the damaged brain cells. The name GDNF, which stands for Glial Derived Neurotrophic Factor. Glial cells are the brain cells that are damaged by Pd. Neurotrophic means NERVE REPAIR or NERVE REPLACEMENT. That means that we have our own built-in Repair Kit that cost NOTHING! That is probably why nobody tells us about it. It does not put money into anybody's pockets!
If you would like to learn more about the walking then contact me on my website - reverseparkinsons.net and I will see if I can help you, at NO COST!
DBS is mainly for reducing tremor. It won’t stop progress but can be fine tuned enough to cut meds by around 66%. It has a variable success rate which I have been pleased with for myself. Some say it’s life changing. DBS in my case came at right time aged 63.
Husband had DBS 16 years ago! What a difference it has made in his life! His PD made him freeze constantly!!
While this made his life more livable, you need to remember this is a PROGRESSIVE disease. I hate to be Debbie Downer, but you need to learn to live and adapt to this disease. I am a positive person, but also very much a realist and deal with the issue head on. Like I tell D, I am here for you in anyway I can (encourage, guide), but this is your disease..... God bless you on your journey.
DBS, as stated previously, does cure or prevent progression of PD. It works better on people whose main symptom is tremor, although it does have some effect on people with gait difficulty. I would think carefully about having it done. The experience of the surgeon and neurologist are important to consider as well.
Thanks too all for the advice
